Still waiting on on-campus housing, what should I do?

Because I never thought I would go to UT (UT was the last on my list), I signed up for on-campus housing very last minute. I still haven't gotten a supplemental housing yet. I called the housing department, and they told me to wait a few weeks (school starts soon?) What other housing options do I have?? Would I still get the same freshman dorm experience if I live in a private dorm?? I just hope they don't leave me on the streets...

i just got an email today saying it’s very unlikely that they will be able to offer me supplemental housing as the wait list is not shrinking fast enough. i have already found an apartment for around $700 a month. i’d rather not be around a bunch of loud and obnoxious students who are overly excited about being away from home for the first time. that being said, i am 27, so our views may be different. but this is still my first apartment on my own.

i’d personally try to find an apartment somewhere else. it’ll be WAY cheaper. you’ll just have to furnish it yourself, though. i’ve found everything i needed to get my apartment by just asking friends and family for stuff they don’t need. plus, public transportation is free with a ut student id card.

@anexia: When did you turn in your housing application?? I turned mine in on april 30. maybe there is still hope for me.

I got that email today too, but I am a transfer and turned my app in sometime around early May so I get like last consideration.
I think you would still get the whole freshman dorm experience living in a private dorm. That is what I went with because I wanted to meet people and be close to campus. They are all basically right across campus. I do not think you would get the same experience living in an apartment. I’ve heard it’s a lot harder to meet people when you live in an apartment.

i only sent in my housing application like two months ago.

May isn’t awful but if transfers get late, that’s a problem.
The freshman queue is still on April 24th and I am April 25th so hopefully I’ll get it soon and not one of the supposed 8 people rooms in the attics of the honors dorms :P…

I’m leaving Dobie so my spot is opened. If you want to know more message me. ASAP.

Just want to update that my spot in Dobie is now taken.

The media here in Austin said at least 800 of those 1200 students will be shut out. What I wouldn’t do is just sit idle. You need to start working on plan B, plan C, etc.

There are tons of roommate requests on Craigslist if you’re open to that. [austin rooms & shares classifieds - craigslist](http://austin.craigslist.org/roo/)

Otherwise, I would look into apartments on the shuttle route for UT on your own, or go to a site like [University Tenants Student Apartments](http://utstudentapartments.com/)

I looked there for an apartment and got into contact with one of the agents who’ll help you search for an apartment for free. I forgot how exactly I started getting into contact with them, but the one I got was super nice and helpful!
