Still waiting, what are my chances at UT Austin?

Austin Community College GPA: 3.6, UT transfer GPA: 3.2
Associates degree in Liberal Arts after this semester.
Phi Theta Kappa international honors society member since 2004.
National Dean's list 2004-2005, 2005-2006.
Held the same part-time job for the past 4 1/2 years.

PS: I'm trying to transfer as a History major.

Thanks.

eek. that transferrable gpa is a little on the low side. you still have a pretty good chance though.

thanks. I just wish I could know so I can get on with my life! ugh.

your chances are not bad :) hang in there

Thanks, I will post my decision once I get it! UT takes into account of every class taken. For example, if an applicant made a 'C' in a class, then takes it again the next semester, making an 'A', UT includes both. So, that is why my GPA lowered to 3.2, I made a few mistakes during my first semester at my CC. There are other colleges out of state that are better than UT that don't calculate transfer GPA's that way, but it's way too expensive. :(

I think every school factors in courses taken multiple times. Even though your CC may report your GPA as 3.6, on your transcript it will be considered as 3.2.

It's definetly not impossible, but I know about 70% of admits at UT Austin had above a 3.4 transferrable GPA, so you really have to make yourself stand out.

Best of luck :)

Thanks, I need luck! :) If I don't get in, I will either stay at my CC to raise my GPA and try UT again in the spring. Or, I'll go to Texas State in San Marcos. I'd rather go to UT, but I'm sick of being at a community college.

I am a cc student (junior tranfer) in IL. I just checked online and I got in!!!
My GPA is 3.3 Econ Major and I didn't file any recommendation letter. I heard that UT Austin is highly In-State oriented school. And it was kind of surprising!!! I think you are in! No doubt.

i was going to apply but i missed the deadline.

sunada777, congratulations! You should count yourself as a very lucky person.

Transfer applicants admitted for fall 2005 exhibited the following characteristics:

Campus-wide average transfer GPA was 3.61; 77.2% of admitted transfer applicants had a transfer GPA of 3.40 or higher.

6,857 students applied for transfer; 2,502 were admitted.

67% of admitted transfer applicants came from 4-year institutions; 33% came from community colleges.

85% of admitted transfer students were Texas residents; 15% were nonresidents.

Seems like you were in the minority side of every component lol. Again, congrats on getting in. UT Austin is a very good school :)

I know that UT is a very good school, but it is ranked lower than UW-Madison which I have got into also. Since I live in IL both schools are out-of-state. Is UT good enough to choose over UW-madison?

WOW, Congratulations Sunada777!! I think you have taken courses that are harder than the ones I have taken. I've almost completed a General studies in Liberal arts associates degree. But, you gave me some hope! Thanks a bunch for sharing your success. =)

It depends what you are into sunada. If you are ready to get out of the cold winters, come to texas. It only gets into the 30's a couple of times during winter and gets into the 70s-80s around march (it's 87 right now). Football is big at UT. Real big.

Is UT better? I dunno. But I live in the middle of dallas right now and I only see the silver Longhorn logo on the back of Lexuss, Infinitis, Mercedezs, BMWs, and Maseratis so the alumni must be great.

I am sure I was little help but I tried.

Yes, I know about the Texas weather. I have been there few years ago to visit my aunt. I was there for about a month and I loved there.
But in MY opinion UW is a bit more better academically for econ major. And I think I can overcome the weather cuz I am kind of used to that kind of cold in the winter. you know! I live in Chicago, the Windy City!!! And it's closer!!!

2bfree, by the end of this semester I will be having something like 45 credit hours. And I have not taken hard classes like calculus or chem, physics. I have taken a bunch of liberal arts like eng, his, econ, hum ect...
Prob. that is why I didn't get into UM-Ann Arbor and got waitlisted at UNC.
Well, I am still waiting for 4 more high-reach schools. And, if God helps me to get into just one of them, I will go for it. So, best of luck to you for your first choice...

Sunada, thanks for your support. =) Honestly, I don't have enough knowledge of UW-Madison to compare it to UT. But, I know how wonderful Austin is, because I grew up here and have visited other cities. Also, the future job growth rate is high for Austin, and it's listed as the number one city to live in. But, if I were you, I would choose the school with better academic ratings and less distance. Good luck to you!

Hey everyone...I got rejected. Now I really don't know what to do. I want to have a decent job after getting a degree somewhere. I don't know how good the alumni is at TX state. Man, but I'm really sick of being at a community college. This sucks.

you can apply to UNT or UT-Dallas if you want. i dont think the deadlines have passed yet.

I don't want to leave the Austin area. Thanks for the advice.

Austin College, maybe? I don't know of any other schools in Austin, unfortunetly. You may have to sacrifice a little distance for more choices, though.

Sorry things didn't work out. If it makes you feel any better, I read awhile ago that they rejected some strong applicants as well (3.8 from Tech). My feeling is there are too many CAP students taking up spots.

Best of luck :)
