Stony Brook Class of 2020

@NYdad2014 thank you :slight_smile:

Where have u decided to go? @Tookme10mins

are they still accepting any students?

maybe you should call them @ael203 cause that seem wrong in my opinion

Rejected 1950(CR:570 Math:710 W:670) GPA: 3.7/4.0 UW. 5 APs upward trend except for math. I am really shocked, waitlisted at fordham too. Dont think it is getting more competitive because people with lower stats got in. Also future applicants if you are over qualified for eop dont apply to it, because it will make them move your application to the end.

@Shelly215 I think Mount Holyoke College,but if the FA isnā€™t good(I havenā€™t looked over the FA packages with my counselor yet,but weā€™re going to tomorrow). Also, Iā€™m supposed to visit MoHo during April since I havenā€™t visited it and want to see how I feel at their campus,but from what Iā€™ve seen and learned Iā€™ve really liked. If I,for some reason I donā€™t end up going to MoHo I guess maybe Skidmore or Hunter? I got wait listed at Vassar today though and itā€™s one of my top choices,soo if I were to miraculously get taken off the waitlist I would most likely go there.

@sosoyumii yeah, I know right. I felt pretty good about Stony too,but I know they had a record amount of apps and there were probably some other controllable factors that affected their decision.My counselor said I could appeal my rejection,but I donā€™t think I will. Iā€™ll admit it did sting a little,but Iā€™ve come to realize,as many have said,that rejection is just a part of life,this process is a crapshoot at some schools,and as NYdad said,this is an opportunity for a new beginning and to be proud of the colleges that have accepted me so Iā€™m fine.:slight_smile:

How many people get wait listed?? @sbuadmissions

I just joined but I got my acceptance 2 weeks ago.
Major: biomedical engineering Sat 1680 (didnā€™t send) ACT 29 and gpa 3.84/4.0 weighted. Iā€™m an URM and I always live an hour away from stony brook. I honestly canā€™t believe that it was that selective this year (2,800/34,000) and that I made it. Does anyone know how stony can go from a 42% acceptance rate to almost 10%???

I donā€™t think that itā€™s actually 10% because you have to keep in mind that there are a certain number of kids that will be accepted but not enroll, so they accept more students than they have seats

@seveneleven29 Itā€™s not 2800/34000. They only have ~2800 spots for incoming freshmen, but they accept FAR more than this because they know they have a low yield. Only ~2800 choose to enroll while far more students are accepted.
The acceptance rate probably went down a little due to increased applicants, but to preserve yield, it is definitely still in the high 30-40% mark.

@raqgabjon me, I got waitlisted =(

@seveneleven29 congrats! I am envious !

my status updated to

ā€œThank you for applying to Stony Brook University. Your application is currently being processed. We will contact you if we are missing any items needed to render a decision.ā€

what does it mean ??

@hoshidan232 it means your in! Congrats!

@hypebeast21 really??!!! I hope to get more confirmation with the letter and everything but if thatā€™s actually the case, im really happy omg !!

that awkward moment that its april 1st and you dont know if youre really accepted or not

Lol same here @hoshidan232

Hopefully you guys wonā€™t be waitlisted.

Itā€™s frustrating how they havenā€™t answered me and theyā€™re past the deadline. Itā€™s the last college Iā€™m going to hear from so I just want to know, yā€™know? (:expressionless:
