Stony Brook Course Placements Math and CS

Hello!
I am most likely going to join SBU next year with Computer Science as my AOI. I was curious about how the placement tests work and whether I can skip out of classes if i study on my own. For eg. can I study Calculus 3 and just test out of it when I come in. (I have a 5 on AP Calc BC)
Also, which computer science course should I take after getting a 5 on AP CS in Java and having a strong background in data structures?

I realize that the class experience is different and all, but from past experiences, I know how dreadful it is to repeat material. i would much rather have the experience with new material and work hard to progress.

Thank You!

If you got a 5 on ap calc bc, then you don’t have to take the math placement exam and get an automatic placement level of 9. This lets you skip calc 1 and 2 and lets you go directly to calc 3. However, it’s still recommended to take the math placement because college level math courses are not the same as high school. As for computer science, a 5 on ap comsci is equivalent to cse 114, which is computer science 1. Im guessing you could skip directly to com sci 2, but im not sure as im not a com svi major. Heres a link to the classes you should be taking from freshmen to senior year.
