Stony Brook or CUNY?

I'm in my third semester at Stony Brook and I want to major in political science. There are hardly any POL classes available this semester and I don't like this school for a number of reasons. I commute from 25 minutes away and I feel like I'm still in high school being so close to home. There is also very little research or activity in the polisci department.

I've been looking into transferring to Baruch for political science with a minor in law. I like that Baruch is in Manhattan and has a department of law. I would get into their honors program (not Macaulay because that is only for freshman). I would also be able to live in the city (a lifelong dream) and their dorms are only $5,000, which is amazing.

I still feel like I will be in the minority with my major - SBU is a science school, Baruch is a business school. I'm starting to look into City College and Hunter, but I've heard that Baruch is regarded as the best CUNY.

Should I stick with SBU, living at home with no independence because it is well known and has a better reputation?

I have a 3.6 GPA at Stony Brook. I get no financial aid, but I cannot pay a lot for tuition because my parents lost their jobs. Any other suggestions about where I should look to transfer (in or around Manhattan)?

Would you consider SUNY Purchase or SUNY New Paltz? They both have political science and are not far from Manhattan.

http://www.suny.edu/student/search_programs/currfd_oas_main.cfm

excellent choice to transfer out of that hell hole.

i’d go to baruch, but i also think the other SUNYs are a good idea as well. would you try bing or geneseo since they’re often thought of as the best SUNYs?
