lifeishard, if you don’t mind me asking, how did you get a FULL RIDE scholarship? I didn’t realize they were given out by Stony Brook.
@qvpo87 I’m in the same boat as you pal! I didn’t receive good financial aid from Stony Brook either and I’m so lost and confused at the moment. I’m also trying to do an appeal but how would I go about doing the appeal process? Have you done it yet?
@KStace That’s what I’m wondering too! I’m guessing the students who received a full ride to Stony Brook (and for that matter, any other school) were given merit-based scholarships due to their outstanding acedimic profile such as high SAT/ACT test scores, high G.P.A., etc.
I still find it odd. I never heard of SB giving a full ride! I heard of Buffalo giving a full ride or close to it but not the other SUNYs. Also, the many of SB applicants have excellent transcripts! Top of the class, AP classes, etc. Possible its not merit based but financially based. Hope @lifeishard can clarify. Just curious!
I checked on Solar today and I got wait listed
My D got lots of money from Stony Brook - full tuition and over half of room and board covered. In her case, all of it was merit. Full tuition Presidential scholarship, National Merit Finalist scholarship, and Alumni scholarship (her dad went there). We didn’t know they gave any big scholarships at all until we got notification of these, so I have no idea about the full rides.
@ljames My GPA was 84.7 (out of 100) at the time of applying and my SAT score is 1480. Keep in mind I got in as an EOP student.
Got my decision on March 31, accepted to the SB engineering program! I’m a junior transfer with a 3.5 GPA. Good luck to everyone
@khaja6 i got into the eop program, gpa is 91/100, sat score is 1650
I got waitlisted, everyone else who got waitlisted what are you guys doing about it?
@khaja6 I got waitlisted too and I really need to think of a backup plan soon. I’m probably thinking about Suffolk and and doing the honors program there which guarantees admission into stony after 2 years if you have a good GPA. So, I guess that’s what I’ll do but I really hope I get in.
i got waitlisted i enrolled at fordham university but if i get accepted from stony i wouldnt know what to do
@jussme7790 I didn’t enroll anywhere. My backup is Suffolk Honors so I’m really hoping I get in!

94 GPA and 1690 SAT (550M,560R)
Long story short- I got off the waitlist a week ago and I put my deposit down today so I’m going to be at SBU in the Fall

@connetquotreppin Thanks! Honestly I have no idea. I know they wanted to tell people by the beginning of June. There’s still a chance of you getting it! Not everybody who gets taken off the waitlist will accept it and not everybody who put their deposit will go either so I wouldn’t lose hope yet!!!
@mandy731 No worries, I’m staying positive and optimistic about all of this. It’s not where you start, it’s where you finish.
Also, do you recommend me sending a letter of continued interest to SBU admissions via email and telling them they are my number 1 choice?
I just applied to Stony Brook Today as a transfer student. I have 27 college credits with a gpa of 3.92. I know I’m extremely late for the fall semester of 2015 but what chances do I have of getting in? & if I dont get in this semester can I get in for the spring semester of 2015?
