Stony Brook University Fall 2015 Admission Decions

@LOLHELPME‌ Thank you! Best of luck, its a great school!

@historylover475‌ Congrats! How exactly did you have a regional interview? Like did you have prior connections to admissions reps before applying? I hope you don’t mind me asking, I’m just curious haha. But again, congratulations!!

@connetquotreppin‌ Thanks! No id ont mind at all! I met her when she came to my school to give a little presentation. Afterward, I asked if she was free over the weekend to talk and she agreed and gave me her email. We met up at a starbucks and just chatted for about an hour. She was actually really nice!

Oh very nice. That’s really awesome! I have similar stats to you so fingers crossed! Congrats again

That had to be Cheryl. She’s awesome. Congrats!

Chris

Also, does anybody know how long after acceptances are sent out scholarships are awarded?

I was accepted today (1/23)! Really excited. I just applied on the 13th. I was really happy to hear back so early. I did very poorly in a couple of classes last year, so I was worrying about getting in.

SAT: 800 CR, 770 M, 78 WR
GPA: About 91.5 out of 100

@Vinnatan‌ Congrats!! Your SAT scores are very high and your GPA is great too! Hope you’re excited

Does anyone know if they’re sending out responses to the more qualified applicants first or if it’s just random?

@historylover475‌ According to Chris from sbuadmissions, scholarship and honor college descions should be out by March.

@Vinnatan‌ Congrats friend!!! Awesome job on all your accomplishments!!! Do you plan on attending?

@AlbertCollege‌ In my opinion, I think Stony Brook is giving out descions to OVERLY qualified students first lol. But hopefully, our time will soon come.

@LOLHELPME I’m not sure if I’m attending, but it’s on my list. I also applied to UB, Binghamton, and Geneseo, so I’m going to wait for decisions from them before I decide where to go, but that might take a couple of months. I’m interested in CS and Geology.

It is natural that if things are being done in stages, that the most competitive applicants receive responses earlier than other applicants. I say “if” because it is not obvious this is in fact the case.

It is also important to not alienate any applicant (since there are usually many options available if one applied to a range of colleges), timely responses are generally a good idea. There a lot more who will be admitted that are close to the mean than those that are far above.

It does appear that there is still are large number of decisions to be made/released, hopefully this happens in the next few weeks.

Chris, can you provide any insight into the rough schedule for delivering decisions? For example, are half the decisions out yet? And at what point is it expected that 80% of the decisions would have been delivered?

Or, if these are not the right questions, are there similar questions that are answerable?

Just some input that allows people to judge where things stand, and be able to make informed decisions as personal decision times approach.

@Nisky1‌ I tottaly agree with you and I have the same exact questions as you. I’m guessing a lot of people do. Thank you for your well-thought out post.

@sbuadmissions‌ Chris, do you think you can help some of our worrying souls? Do you have any input to any of @Nisky1‌ 's questions? Any help would be greatly appericiated.

@LOLHELPME‌ he’s happy but not as excited as me. Waiting to hear from the other schools he applied to to see who gives him the best $$ package.

Chris

My son received an e-mail today to check SOLAR for the decision. He was was accepted and the paperwork will come in the mail in a couple of weeks! I am super proud of him. Stony Brook has a wonderful reputation.

He has a 3.6 gpa - 92 average

Lots of extra curriculars
Sent first semester senior grades which were even higher - 94 average
Applied late Oct.

Good luck everyone.

@tamdave123‌ I have similar stats so I hope to hear soon! How exactly did you send 1st semester senior grades? My counselor told me not to do so. My average the 1st semester was higher than my overall average, so I’d love to send my grades too. Please reply at your earliest convenience! Congrats btw!!

@bigdtah4‌ Haha, well good luck to your son wherever he decides to attend! I’m sure he’ll do great!

@lenayd‌ @BTWini‌ Holy moly CONGRATS FRIENDS!!! You guys have awesome stats. Do you guys believe you will be attending?

@tamdave123‌ Congratulations to your son! I’m so happy for him! As @connetquotreppin‌ mentioned, how did your son submit his first semester senior grades? I also have similar stats as your son, just a lower SAT score, but I hope to hear back as well!
