Stony Brook was my number one choice but after reading more about it...

I'm getting real skeptical about going there. The academics are great, I like that they have a specialization in game design but ****... I wanna have fun in college too. I'm not the type of dude to sit in his room or go to the library and study.

So what I'm asking is, is it true that Stony Brook is that boring of a school to go to? This one dude I know said that the parties at Stony Brook were amazing but that's not what I get when I read online articles. I read that there's pretty much no one is on campus on weekends and most of the people that go there are nerds. What is there to do if you do plan on staying on campus on the weekends?

There’s noone on campus on weekends because most people go to the city for the weekend since alot of them live there(and they party or relax, etc).
If you stay on campus, you just better find friends that stay as well so you can do something, otherwise its up to you to get creative to do something.

I personally either hang whatever friends that stayed that weekend on campus if I stayed myself. Or I end up doing homework so I don’t end up screwed by doing it all last minute later in the week.

There are nerds but there are normal people too, if your going to do game design, you will see quite a lot. It basically all depends on your classes, it also doesn’t mean you have to associate with such people, it’s all up to you to find people you want to hang out with.

A lot of the naysers on the internet are just people who don’t take advantage of opportunities to meet people and do things.

Do keep in mind though that you will have to stay in your room or go to the library to study sometime(NEVER push studying back until the exams start, do it way before). If you don’t study, good luck, some friends of mine are in danger of being expelled because of the wonderful GPAs they recieved from not doing such last semester.

My best friend goes to SBU, and she did say that campus is basically deserted on weekends since everyone lives close enough to just go home. But she ended up joining SBVAC, which she said keeps her super busy, and she’s made a lot of friends. I think if you get involved in stuff on campus you’ll be fine. Plus, if you want do do something more exciting, the city’s not too terribly far away.

I heard if you want to party and go wild, I wouldn’t go to SB, there is a lot of really smart kids who study all day and everyone else leaves, I just hope I get in because I need the in-state - tuition.

You will mostly likely end up with a roommate who wants to study all day and complains to the RA if you are too loud.

If I get in and go and the partying sucks then I mite transfer because I need to have fun.

Look into Binghamton.

Go to SUNY Albany, Buffalo, or Binghampton if your looking for parties because you wont find them at SB.

agreed- look into the other SUNY university centers if you want a large (and cheap) party school with good academics.

but it sounds like you should look into binghamton first!!
