Hey guys, I want to be a doctor and plan on either studying biochemistry or biomedical engineering. My only goal is to get into the top 15 medical school in the country, (I know it sounds pretentious but it has always been a goal of mine to attend one, sorry). I have been accepted to Stony as a Unversity scholar with 2500 a semester. I have been accepted to Albany in the Honors College with 4000 a semester. I have also gotten into Union's Honors college with 10000 a year just with scholarships. I don't know which one would best lead me to reaching my goal of becoming a doctor. Any advice? Thanks

I dont know much about Union (but it has a good academic reputation!), but I am familiar with Stony Brook and Albany…

DO NOT GO TO STONY BROOK. I literally don’t know anyone that is happy there. I was also accepted there with scholarships but decided that I’d be willing to pay a bit more for a better quality of life. Albany is not only a good school academically, but has a thriving social scene. The faculty, students, facilities etc as a whole make for a much better four year experience. If I were you, I’d be willing to spend the extra $1500 for happiness.

Great goal! YOUR the one that needs to excel. All the schools you listed are qualified. The state schools will save you some money and both are good research centers. You will need to focus on getting great grades, get involved in the medical field by doing research and volunteering, score well on your MCAT’s, and obtain excellent referrals. At this point, go with the school that you think will allow you to focus on you dream. Also, try to articulate why you want to be an MD…without being sorry.

Good luck.

You claim you don’t know anyone who feels happy, but that is not a fair representation of the entire campus made up of thousand of students which you cannot possibly all know. Even say 80 people or so(just coming up a number) you may know somehow, are a small fraction(.3%) of the west campus student undergrad body of 24,692.

There are many excellent faculty members here spread over a range of departments and areas. Of course there are a few bad ones here and there but no place is perfect. Facilities? They are being maintained and improved, the chemistry building is being renovated, a new gym is being built, the new residential hall is approaching completion, dorms, buildings were wired up with new internet connections and wifi, etc.
