Stop at 2210?

I got a 2210 on the past SAT test. I always thought if I got 2250 I would stop with the SAT, and I was disappointed that I missed my goal by 40 points. I absolutely detest the SAT (like many people^^), so I was wondering if it was worth restudying and retaking. I want to go to UC Berkeley, but I will be applying to other Top 20 schools! Any input would be gladly appreciated(: Thank You

if you want to go to berkeley and other top 20 schools I would suggest you aim a little higher although it does also depend on what major you’re applying to and the individual subscores since iirc some schools don’t look at writing (NYU doesn’t care about writing so even though I got 2310 i got 800 in math and cr so to them i basically got 2400) but yea. Most of my friends who got into berkeley/top 20 schools have 2300+ and I got a 2310 and didn’t get into any top schools besides berkeley, LA, and NYU Stern although it is also largely contingent on other factors

The Adcomms will look at more than your SATs and not all 2210s are equal. Most schools weight eh CR and M scores more than the W.

A 2210 is a great score.

If you truly “hate” taking the SAT, you do not need to take it again, but a higher critical reading or math score may influence some members of some admissions committees.

My breakdown was:

Critical Reading-800
Math-700
Grammar-710
so C+M=1500/1600

Just from the advice, I think I will be taking the SAT again. Hopefully, I can raise my math/grammar to 750ish. Thank you for the advice!

If you’re aiming for UCs, it’s true that the higher your stats are, the higher chance that you’ll have for admissions. But I’ve seen few exceptions this year… whether that tells us the subtle change within admissions committee.

It would’t hurt to take it again. If you go to UC Berkeley’s forum and sift through the most recent posting of admitted students, that might be a good place to start weighing you vs. the admitted students. You also need to take into account other factors that could decide your admission. Do you bring something to the campus that other candidates might not? For example, I only scored a 2140 on the SAT, but I scored a 34 on the ACT, I have a 4.0, and I come from a background (poor rural farm kid) that most other applicants don’t, which I used in my essays to set me apart, so luckily I got into my first choice school (Rice University in Houston). Your scores are really good, but just compare yourself to the rest. Good luck!

These are solid scores with even distribution. It should be good enough if you are not going to engineering or science majors. Otherwise, getting a better Math score would be helpful. Alternatively, you may take the SAT2 Math2 test and aim for 750+. It is easily achievable as around 20% students are at that level.

I would aim to improve your math scores to 750+ level and perhaps bring up your writing as well. Although those are perfectly fine scores, there is a small, yet still visible, difference between a low 2200s and 2300+. Just my 2 cents.

I think you are in pretty good shape. If you want a STEM major at Cal, maybe you think about raising the math score a little, but i think you are in pretty good shape. Here is a question, if you did not spend X more hours practicing the Math SAT, what would you do with that time? If it is something that you love and it is enriching - do that.

Depends on what your intended major is at Berkeley. I know someone with a 2280 and solid GPA who was rejected because he was applying for one of the most competitive majors. I would suggest that you retake at least once.

You should totally retake it! Especially because your worst section is writing, which is the easiest to improve on.
