Stop being such *******s

This is a post for alot of you who are being extremely mean to those who have good questions. Most people are coming on here for advice, not to be berated with insults and snide remarks. I was accepted to Cal, but that gives me NO RIGHT to be a complete ass to a stranger online. Imagine that these people were fellow students at your highschool. Would you tell them to suck it up and accept that they got into Berkeley in the Spring? or tell them to give up the appeals process? If anything you should have pride that people are so desperate to be given the same oppertunities that were presented to you.

Really? I've been telling spring admits how great the FPF program is and all they seem to think is that I'm so evil man trying to trick them into some horrible program.

Below are some posts made by spring admits themselves:

"I feel the exact same way! Everyone keeps telling me that it's not bad, it's the same as regular admissions except for the timing, blah blah blah... even though Cal was my top choice, I still just feel bad. I almost would rather have been rejected instead of put in the pool of second-class losers."

"CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME (and the people who asked before) IF YOU CAN APPEAL TO ENTER IN FALL?!?! I REALIZED THIS MORNING THAT I WAS ONLY ADMITTED FOR SPRING, AND I AM GOING CRAAAAAAZY. I can drive over to Berkeley at any time over the weekend to plead my case but I'D LIKE TO KNOW IF THEY WOULD EVEN CONSIDER MY APPEAL."

"Is it true you can only take 4 classes? The impression I get is that they don't think you can handle it at Berkeley, so they're giving you this extension thing in case you can't handle it and need to get yourself out. It seems as if all of these classes aren't typical of the Berkeley curriculum, as it is more of a reflection of ACCLIMATING as we are INCAPABLE."

But whatever. I've done my part sharing my experiences and have given enough advice, and many doesn't seem to appreciate one bit so now they have to decide and learn about the program themselves or take the time to use the search function.

I was not talking about that thread in particular, however it seems that all I am reading are mean comments. here is a fabulous example. A rejected student is appealing and this was his reply from a future student.

"ROFL, they rejected you for a reason. If anyone has a change of getting into Fall 06', it would be the spring 07' people. I bet you weren't even offered that. kthx."

"I was not talking about that thread in particular, however it seems that all I am reading are mean comments."

How ironic, calbear10.

We're just preparing you for an authentic Berkeley experience where everyone around you is a selfish, anti-social prick.

there's mean people everywhere get over it.

unlimited...can you read..i wrote that it SEEMS like all the posts that i am reading are mean. Open your eyes and stop getting defensive because you are one of the negative members who are posting

Just to clear things up, I did not post what calbear10 quoted (even though he made it clear that it was posted by a future student).

Yep, that's how it is. Polite antagonis, as usual, with the Truth. You love your absolutes. That's not going to serve you well in law school, antagonis.

"Open your eyes and stop getting defensive because you are one of the negative members who are posting"

Then I'd suggest you be the one who should be giving helpful advice rather sitting back and criticizing others.

unlimited, there are people who appreciate what you're doing.. maybe they're just not so vocal about it. i have to say i do appreciate the information people have been giving about the FPF.. etc, being a spring admit myself. i don't think calbear was attacking you personally in the original post, just making a general observation that maybe you were a part of and urging people to be nicer around here, because yeah.. there are a lot of snotty remarks made in response to people's questions sometimes. i guess it's quite common around cc, with all the brains and often arrogance that comes along with it and all. sure, we could say that it happens, and we should just suck it up and live with it, but it doesn't hurt getting a point across in a more tactful way ^^ although calbear i think you'd expect people to get defensive with such a blunt .. stop being such ***** whatever it was .. lloll.

if anyone doesn't like what i said please don't reply to me and point out my typos and grammatical errors and what not "omg you can't even SPELL. what an idiot.".. -_-
k i'm out. cya around berkeley.

i actually found a lot of things that unlimitedx has said on the forums to be extremely useful....

yes unlimited, I am a spring admit and found your posts to be very informative about the FPF program..I do not feel like a second class loser because I am a spring admit..I feel honored to be offered admission.

I appreciate your posts about Cal..please do not stop stating your honest opinions.

i'm a spring admit, and i appreciated unlimitedx's posts. it really did help clear up a lot of q's i had about the FPF.

but i also totally agree with calbear10. it irks me when others dismiss my concerns about the spring admission, esp when they were admitted for fall. it may just be the internet's skew of things, but it seems as if they're just belittling what i (and others) view as important problems in making our decision. that's why it sucks when others say we won't get through appeals or that we should just get over the sadness about spring admission or etc.

Thanks guys, I very appreciate it! April is a very stressful time for me last year as well because of upcoming AP exams and deciding which was the right university.

I think Calbear10 saw my following post at <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=164412:%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=164412:</a>
"Live with it or move on. Simple as that. Sounds harsh, but this is reality. If you can't handle this, then attend elsewhere."

I may have been too blunt, but that was my intention. I was also a spring admit so I know how you all feel and think right now, and I am only trying my best to help you make a decision based on what I have experienced.

Yes, we all wish we rather fall admits instead of spring, who wouldn't (unless you already planned a semester vacation of some sort and such)? But really, putting this into perspective this will only affect 1 out of your 8 semesters if you choose to attend Cal. You will still be able to enjoy the same benefits as any other student- intramural sports, joining a frat/sorority, sports club, any of the 700+ student organizations, use the RSF (gym), the library. You will still be able to get the free freshmen football tickets. You will still be able to eat at the Dining Commons. You will still be able to live in the dorms just like any other student (granted a triple is very probably, and last year all FPF students who applied for housing received a space). You will still have the "freshmen experience." The only limitation is not being able to participate in NCAA sports.

FPF is a fabulous program and I do not regret participating in it rather than going to a CC last semester. Sure, it may have been cheaper going to a CC, but I wouldn't have been able to meet some of the most amazing people ever, wake up 5am for rowing practices with the guys, have great conversations with my coworkers at the biolab, and lots of others things I can continue rambling about.

Appeal is always an option, but unless you have a remarkable story to tell, the chances are slim to none. Yes, the difference between a fall and spring admit to you right now may mean a world of difference, but I can tell you that once first semester is over, no one will ask if you were a fall or spring admit unless you choose to bring it up. And if you think senior year of high school went by fast, wait until you come over here. It only seemed like a month or two ago that I attended my first college lecture, and now the school year is almost over.

Ultimately, the decision of attending which university is yours. Weigh all your options carefully, visit the campuses, ask lots of questions, do what you need to do in order to make the right decision.

Hope this helps. I will be happy to answer any other specific questions you may have.

I saw that post and I agree. I was confused why people were attacking/being mean to that ONE particular poster. Plenty of people appeal, so... ah, whatever.

i don't see how ppl can be bitter about spring admit unless if they have godly stats and truly expected to get in as fall. from my point of view as a UCB rejectee(i will appeal but i know it probably won't work), i would gladly accept the spring admit. so for all the spring admits, just look at it this way: there are TONS of heartbroken rejectees (like me) who would kill for a spot at UCB, and would be thrilled with a spring admit spot. even in fall extension, you can stay at Cal and live in dorms and stuff..even if u don't get it, the worst case scenario is taking classes at a community college for 1 semester..what's wrong with that? i would honestly purchase your spring admit seat for some money if it were actually possible
