Stores around campus?

are there like basic stores near the campus? i'm an incoming freshman and i thought it'd be useful to know where to buy basic odds and ends. thanks for any help!

There’re a few stores around campus. There’s My Market, a little grocery store right on the corner of Raymond Ave. It’s right off campus, but it’s a little pricey and it hasn’t got everything. There’s also a Rite Aid within walking/biking distance. Then there’s Stop and Shop, the legit grocery store, and that’s about a mile off campus. I can walk it in about ten, fifteen minutes. Um, the bookstore is overpriced but good for toiletries in a pinch. K-Mart is also on the way to Stop and Shop and there’s a plaza with things like Big Lots and whatnot.

During the school year there’s a free shuttle to the mall on Saturdays, and there’s a Target at the mall. When the shuttle isn’t running, one can always get a cab to go. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it, because it can be expensive and Poughkeepsie cabs can be more than a little sketchy. I’ve done it in the past, but I wouldn’t say I enjoyed it by any means. The mall is not within walking distance, unfortunately.

The part of Poughkeepsie in which Vassar is doesn’t have many convenience stores, pretty much just the ones the previous response said. But if you know someone with a car on campus (about a third of students have cars on campus), there are a bunch of gas stations and convenient stores not too far from campus, and not on any major roads (so they’re much better in terms of traffic, but not late-night runs). (Also, I don’t go to Vassar, but I live about ten minutes away, and I am there pretty often)
