Straight Guys at Vassar?

Hi everyone,
I'm thinking about applying to Vassar and Sarah Lawrence but I'm afraid that I'll have a really tough time finding straight guys. I'm not homophobic at all, and I support gay rights. So I feel like I'd be fine, but are there enough straight guys there?
Thanks!

Yes, there are enough straight guys at Vassar.

Why does Vassar have a reputation of full of gays? Is it still true today? I thought every college will have its fair share but Vassar seems to get all this talk about having the most…

The LGBT community is not any bigger or any smaller at Vassar, sure maybe the whole Vassar atmosphere attracts a smidge more gays, but I think it’s more of the fact that the LGBT community there is more active that at most places. I mean, it’s not like you’ll hear more about the LGBT scene at Arizona State, you know?

i stayed at vassar for a weekend. Going in i was slightly worried - I am pro gay rights and have gay friends. While there, I did not think about it at all, it was not an issue. Do not worry. In fact I would say it would increase the odds and make the straight guys to girls ratio better.

What mattsaysfierce says is true; the LGBTQ community is extremely prominent in events, organizations, etc. Sexuality and heteronormativity are immensely popular topics of conversation and discussion, so do keep in mind that the community is by no means closeted. However, there is by no means a shortage of heterosexual males…

I was at a camp/festival thing this past summer, and we got a majority of the guys to write “is gay/straight” on their name badges. It was really helpful at the dances.

I was surprised to see more straight guys, at a THEATRE camp. So really, in a similarly liberal environment, the ratio’s not going to be that bad for straight girls looking for a guy. Gay guys, on the other hand, will probably find themselves playing Six Degrees of Separation with sexual partners.

If you are not comfortable with an open LGBT community, then Vassar is not the right place for you.

as a current Vassar student, I will tell you that a significant majority of the males on campus are straight. The gay population on campus is probably slightly higher than the actual percentage in the real world. you will probably come to campus and be surprised at how many straight “normal” guys there are on campus, considering all the rumors about the lack of any straight males on the VC campus.

hope this helps!
