street parking around ucla...

Unless you lived on Gayley last year and were one of the 4 cars the crazy drunk dude ran into at top speed. But that was a total fluke and a street with much more traffic than Glenroy so I'm sure it'll be fine.

haha you're kidding right? You have no idea how many accidents I've responded to on Veteran, Gayley and Hilgard. The vast majority are drunk drivers. Others are idiot hit and runs. Some have major injuries, others not so much. However, given my experience seeing those things, I would never park my car on one of those streets (esp if I was the first car in a line after an intersection.

icarus- but even on glenroy? which, from what ive read here, is a small street off veteran with low traffic...

my friend lives on glenroy (note that it's glenroy north of sunset, not south) so i'm there quite a bit and there is virtually no traffic

Icarus- I didn't say that accidents don't happen on those streets. I mentioned that they were highly trafficked. I also mentioned that because Glenroy is a much smaller street with really only residential traffic (and significantly fewer student drivers) that the OP would be ok parking there. I didn't mean to say that the one major accident was an exception, just pointed it out because A- it was so massive, and B- the evidence of it was left for so long that most people heard about it, as opposed to all of the other accidents you respond to which people don't hear about bc they get cleaned up.

'Tis all.

I wasn't commenting on the conditions on glenroy, which I dont' know much about. I'm just saying that big accidents on Gayley and other big streets aren't "flukes" - they are actually quite common.

yermama, are you interested in parking in an apartment building garage on Wilshire/Malcolm? i think my apartment still has an empty spot that we could possibly rent out. if you're interested, i can check for you. there's a campus shuttle that stops nearby (at the wilshire center) which is what i'm going to be taking to and from campus.

bfired2-

thats really sweet of you. could you give me a little more detail perhaps? cost? would the time to get there by shuttle be less of a pain than walking ~1 mile to glenroy? obviously it would take less time, but i mean does it stop by often, easy to find, that kind of thing. i dont know anything about the shuttle, so anything would be helpful :)

well, i haven't talked to my roommates or manager yet, but as far the shuttle goes-

every 8-10 minutes, mon-fri until 530PM. here's a map of where the apartment is (approx) to the nearest shuttle stop (approx also):

i actually haven't used it yet, but my roommate uses it for summer school and having lived in the dorms, he says it's faster to get on campus using that than walking from the dorms..if that makes sense.

as for pricing and terms, i'd have to check, if you're still interested.

Unfortunatly, break-ins do happen in Westwood, I know of 2 personally last year. I think if you don't have an expensive stereo you should be fine though. I don't know the rate relative to other areas, but I don't think its bad around here.

sorry to bring this up again...but i just parked my car at glenroy today...and there were absolutely no other cars on the street and i felt REALLY weird about leaving it there. one side says no parking and the other side has no signs about parking at all so i parked it there. could there be internal community laws that dont allow non-residents to park there? im pretty sure id end up getting towed if i left my car there for a week at a time since i only use it one day a week....;/ any ideas? please?

Does anyone know where the metered parking is on or off campus?

metered parking on campus is in the sproul turnaround and on de neve drive from like...the tom bradley center up to covel. i'm sure theres more hidden somewhere else on campus, but those are the obvious ones.

yermama, you can park on the side that doesn't indicate anything. the only time they would possibly tow you is red flag days, when theere are fire warnings in the santa monica mountains, which are quite rare. otherwise you can leave your car. my only concern leaving the car there would be getting hit by someone since its so narrow but even thats unlikely.
