Stress!!!!!!

you plebe moms are like my mom was
when i attended state college

except it took a week to get ther
and she she sent

vienna sausages
licorace whips
sardines (oil)
canned date nut bread
canned corn beef
and best of all
chocolate covered cherries

ALL MY FAVORITES

Thanks Moms

Vienna sausages were the best - especially that gelatin that they packed em in - we would dip them in wolfs brand chili. Heaven!

to this day

a quick yet
messy meal in lieu
of fast food
(open can. rince with warm water)

canned corned beef
is a hikers delight
especially with canned
date nut bread (super good)

gave up the licorace

but chocolate covered cherries

bury me with a box
no two
and put one in my mouth

old habits die hard
what you send may become theirs

sorry in Texas we just loved the geletin that they packed it in - we would have never thought to rinse them off.

1) Open wolfs brand chili can,
2) Open Vienna Sausage Can
3) pull out v-sausage - make sure you scoop out plenty of gelatin
4) Dip v-sausage in wolf's chili
5 enjoy!

in the mountains of md

the gelatin
was discarded packing material
(i should have remailed to texas)

open invitation

anyone who has a kper
who would enjoy some
canned vienna sausages

ill send them a load
no stress

Oh prouddad, now the truth comes out. Weren't we the pampered son. And whatever you are talking about sounds disgusting. You guys need to come up to New York and have some REAL FOOD!! It may cost you a couple of hundred, but I bet you will never touch anymore sausage in gelatin again. LOL

look - I have not touched that stuff in years. and dropping a couple of C notes on parents weekend is not a problem for a good side if beet. I'm just lookin for the best steakhouse in LI and everything on this forum is giving me the cityguide recommendations - i need to know, "what is the best steakhouse on LI?" And that is going to have to stack up to the best ones in Texas! Oh and supermansmom -ask any 'guy' about vienna sausage and the gelatin and he will tell you what we are talking about.

sorry Beef not Beet. i hate beets

supersmnom

im a little toughened
perhaps grissled
cooked the biscuits, grits
and sausage on tugboats on the mississippi
lived on snapper and grouper
that we caught
in the oilfields of the gulf

but i think these
kpers are gettin toughened too

a few dozen snausages
would only put a greesy smile
on the faces of these boiled chicken
and hot roast beef
bloated achievers
(have you eaten there ??)

now id rather send them
a dozen oysters on the half shell
some softcrabs
and a pile of silver queen sweet corn
that i now eat each night

but as students

some over pasturized food from a can
can be a treat
and actually quite in line
with the lifestyles that they are living

simple
straightforward
and ready to eat

How about just eating a box of cereal.

TMR: I figured it was a guy thing. Sorry but I'm more a surf & turf girl. Nothing out of the can. As far as steakhouse on LI, I know there is Peter Luga's (not sure if spelled right) right near the Academy which is considered top notch steak. At least a $100 a steak. My very frugal husband went to the one in Brooklyn and is still raving about it. He wants to feed a family of 4 on a $100 but he would go back to this place. If you don't mind traveling into Manhattan, well I have a place for you which will beat the pants off Texas. It is called Churrascari Plataform. You do not order. What happens is you are given a card (one side red and one side green). When you are ready to be served you flip the card to green. Well watch out, waiters come out with skewers of all kinds of meat (steak, duck, chicken, sausage (no gelatin included), lamb, pork, pig, you name it they have it. They actually carve the meat into your plate off the skewers. Well the bill came out to $1,000 for 11 people. I almost had to administer CPR to husband, but kids are still talking about it today. Beat that Texas!!

no prouddad is growing on me w all the talk of the mississippi, grits, oysters and softshells.. i spent a bunch ot time between lafayette and NOLA and crawled all over the eastern shore of Mobile Bay out to Lake City, FL. Sounds like Prouddad and me could relate. My bet he has eaten at Mother's on a Sat morning w a screaming headache and had a chili omlette at the Cammilia Grill on a Sunday morning. what say you prouddad? am i right?

cheerios , wheatchex or shreded wheat
outta box dry
yes
real goodstuff
eat them right outta your pocket
on deck

i think
these guys work hard enough
to eat anything

theyve got more important things on thier minds

i think now

the plebes need to focus on
academics

un a way

i think indoc and the rest of the
tough standards and hard work

is an attempt to
take the place of the years
of vienna sausages,
biscuits and gravy
loneliness
storms
3 hour on'off watches
bloody hands
etc
that an officier who worked his way
thru the hawsepipe
has endured

these kpers are EARNING
what awaits them

on deck or in the engine room
a can of sausages and a fi****l
of cheerios can be heaven

they are ok / we are ok

a pocketful of cheerios

haha, i'd take vienna sausages! heck, i haven't eaten those in ages! they were always a favorite for hunting trips back when i was a kid. but alas, there's no supply of said Vienna sausages at KP. although that might be a good thing for our health... haha. i'm not sure of the nutritional value of them. but they're yummy anyways

you wont die if you eat them 5 days a week
as long as you eat shrimp and oysters the other 2 days

i sailed mostly outta
covington la
on lake ponchitran and
bayou le batre alambama

yes forest gump did too
I RELATE TO HIM
a real place

tugs and
offshore oil crewboats

3 weeks in gulf
fishing each night

and 1 week in big easy
fishing all night

no life for kpers

but the toughness, grit, simplicity and
the need for competence is the same

dont stress moms/dads

they are working
preparing
training
for a classic, timeless and worthwhile career

the world is their oyster

stress levels are way up right now because they are right out on indoc and still feel/do things they did during indoc. Like shine your shoes twice a day.. or somethin. They'll learn eventually what's "good enough" as a plebe and that will take some stress off. Then they will figure out with regards to academics (talking to engineers mainly here) that it gets a LOOOOOTTTTT harder. My classes the past couple of trimesters, and this one too are rEdiculous. There's no way I couldn't get through without studygroups and talking to section mates. Again cheating on a test is one thing but if the prof. says you can work on your homework together why not? I mean why sit there for 2 hrs over one problem when your bud can show it 2 u in 5 minutes. With most people here its not a matter of being to lazy to not do homework its more a matter of they dont know how to do the homework so it doesn't get done. This is where your peers come in...he knows number 2, you know number 6, etc. Besides you make friends this way right?

I know there's a steakhouse in Hell's Kitchen that sells Coby Beef at about $300 for a ten ounce steak. How does that grab you tmr?

sorry, I should qualified - Made in USA.

mom

stress is watching a hurricane turn in your direction (frederic 1979)

stress is watching as your vessel is over burdened with a foot of ice all over and at risk of capsizing (chesapeake bay 1983)

stress is being the only hand awake, at wheel and struggling to stay awake

or hearing the grinding noise of of a dieing diesel on a single screw boat

95% of these kids will be doing fine
a few arent ready or dont really want it

give him encouragement and your big hug on parents weekend

hes ok
in good company
and in good hands

Supermanmom! Yes the Churrascari is fantastic. My husband travels to Brazil a lot and those are his favorite places to eat (by the way it is pronounced Chia-rescue..yes like the Chia pet). By all means it is worth the money dropped...but go hungry!
