Hey. I’m usually tense and stressed about school (tests and grades more specifically) and my teachers and classmates often comment on it. Anyone have any suggestions or stress relief techniques? Thanks!
Hey there! I have the same problem, here are some things that have helped me:
- Yoga/ mindfulness exercise
- Water, I drink it constantly, it helps with energy and general health
- Make a checklist of your tasks and due dates each week, check the things as you complete them
- Over prepare for tests, study the nights before and feel confident in your knowledge of the information
- Be aware of your eating habits, make sure you are getting enough iron, fiber, carbs, etc
- No electronics 30 mins before bed, helps with sleeping better (more sleep= less stress)
Hey! I also get really worked up when it comes to exams and grades, but I don’t let it take control of my life. Here’s how I do it and maybe you can learn something from it:
- Exercise. If you take your mind off of school for a bit, then you can get back to work refreshed!
- When it comes to studying for tests, think about what you do know and don’t know. If you something really well, just glance over it and don’t study that part. If you don’t know something well, focus on that part the most.
- Give yourself at least 4 days to study. Visit your teachers if you’re confused on anything. Remember, they’re there to help you, not hurt you.
- Drink water!
- “10 years from now, this won’t matter”. Even though this is cliche, don’t brush it off. If you do really bad on an Algebra test, don’t sweat it. You won’t die from a bad grade.
- Learn from your mistakes.
- BREATHE.
I hope this helped and best of luck! You got this
Hey! I struggle with stress and anxiety but I manage them using a few things:
-
Baths. A nice bubble bath is great for soothing nerves.
-
Do your work ASAP. I find my stress levels go down when I do my work as soon as I get it. And do it right, don’t do it with half effort.
-
Exercise! Exercise is great with nerves. If you’re feeling particularly anxious, run a little bit. Put that nervous energy into your performance.
-
Don’t just study the night before. Study when you first learn it! It doesn’t have to be a lot in one night, but a little bit of studying each day for a week is better than cramming the night before. It’ll make you feel better, too.
-
Eat and drink well. I feel less stress when I have a good diet. Drink LOTS of water! Water helps so much with emotions and your physique too!
-
Allow yourself relaxation time. You NEED time to unwind after school.
Okay, thanks so much for your suggestions! @assemblingphilosophies @JMS357 @mediocresoccerplayer
I was like that Sophomore year when taking American Studies and Honors Biology. What would I do?
“The question is: Deal or No Deal?”
If you don’t know what I mean, I am saying put on GSN (Game Show Network) while you do homework. I did it while doing homework, doing projects, studying for tests, and so much more. You think it would be a distraction, but it somehow helps. Especially when coming home from Driver’s ed, it was so relaxing to watch an episode of Family Feud until 1:00 AM while crying internally about the project and test I had tomorrow in Honors Biology.
Actually, I watched a lot of movies Sophomore year, averaging around 6 or so per week. I watch Wayne’s World and the next day when taking an Honors Biology exam, I got a 12/11, the highest in the class. For the Honors Biology final, I watched Gremlins and got a C+ or so, which was actually higher than the average. Relax, I ended the class with an A-, but I worked so hard for it.
I really got off topic lol. But in my opinion, have a movie or tv show in the background, but make sure not to watch Breaking Bad while taking Chemistry or you’ll look at your teacher in a whole new way (I found that out the hard way).
When I’m stressed and overwhelmed with college and life in general, I do two things, pray and cry. Often simultaneously. It helps.
Maybe I’ll try the deal or no deal thing… that’s something I haven’t ever even thought of. Could be relaxing, thank you! @biologymajorhere As for @logcase18 it does help haha
Yes it does! It helps a lot! Just got done doing both actually. Well, done praying anyway. Still crying at the moment :((
I’ve always been overly stressed out about tests and grades in high school. (I’m a senior now, and I’ve learned to manage it better). When I look at my scores I just remind myself that as long as I tried my best there is nothing else that I can do. And that ultimately, one grade or test will not determine my future. Breathe…
