Stressed

I don't want to get false hopes, but I can't help it. Has anyone gotten into UMich with low stats GPA wise? If you check my posts you'd understand... do I have a chance?

If you don’t get in, you can still easily go to UM through Washtenaw Community College

The advantages of WCC pathway to UM is:

*u don’t have to work hard in high school, since WCC accepts anyone as long as u graduated high school.
*u save 10,000s of dollars
*u don’t have to work hard in WCC, since it’s easy to get good GPA.
*when u do transfer, u have much better GPA than others who actually had to do more work than u.

sorry this is an extremely stupid question… what is WCC? something Community College?

I edited my post to explain what it is: Washtenaw CC.

I forgot to mention WCC has high acceptance rate at UM.

Does anybody know exactly which CCs have the highest acceptance rates at UM?

Thanks, I was working on my application for WCC, but it says if I’m applying for financial aid, I have to get a degree at WCC. Do I need a degree to transfer to UMich (Ex: Associate Degree)?

disadvantages
-you get owned at umich because you haven’t developed the study skills needed to succeed.

Well what do you consider low stats?

As for cc, I would double think about risking your education at a cc with intentions of transfering to University of Michigan.

I do know that University of Michigan branch campuses ( dearborn, and flint) likely have a high acceptance rate of transfer students admitted. You can try applying there if you want.

Also, I don’t know where to check. I would really like to major in Engineering so I’m checking Pre-Engineering/Physics

Transfer and University Parallel Programs
Business Transfer
Computer Science and Information Systems
Criminal Justice
Education
Exercise Science
Math and Science
Social Work
Internet Professional
Liberal Arts Transfer
Pre-Engineering/Physics
Pre-Medicine

I personally would never attend a CC for the sole purpose of going to U of M. I’d be bored out of my mind, for one thing.

Tentai, did you go to WCC and transfer to U of M? I’m just really curious o_O

ughhhhhh yosupp what do i do?? …

You’re in-state man, you should be fine. We just had a kid from my school get in with a 3.5 GPA and a 26 ACT and virtually no ECs.

Although quite frankly, I’m freaking out a bit, too… ****es me right off that this guy got in at all, let alone received his decision before me having applied much earlier and having way better numbers. But, what can you do, eh?

If I remember right, Moricarak you were accepted into Michigan State University. If you don’t get into University of Michigan you still can attend a great school (MSU) and likely complete your four years there… however unless for some reason you decide to transfer.

UMich is infinitely better than MSU, so it’s better to go to UM via WCC, where transfer rate is high and the tuition rate is infinitely less than UM Flint / Dearborn. or MSU.

The advantages far outweigh the disadvantage.

Also I heard that CC teaches better than normal schools because they can give more attention, so that people who transfer from CC does better than people who went from the 1st year.

I wish i either did horrible in high school or no go HS, just get GED –> WCC –> UM

When u go to CC u could have more time for doing more productive and fun things. School work is unproductive grunt work. The more you can eliminate school work, the more time u can have for productive work. Like advising people on forums.

^you’ll self own yourself with that kind of attitude. Not everything you learn in high school or college is supposed to be relevant to what you want to do in life. The point is, the things you do at school make a smarter person in general and build your discipline skills, at least at high school. And it doesn’t take a fool to realize that college is where you learn professional skills

Man, I hope you’re kidding. If you really believe what you just said, then yeah, you should probably go to a community college. However, I’m sure most people on this site would rather spend two years of their lives at a 4 year institution studying something they really enjoy, and preparing for the future.

Moricarak, what other colleges are on your list? I know if you’re like me and you grew up wanting to go to U of M, this can be hard, but I would go to another 4 year institution than a CC for the sole purpose of transferring to U of M. If, in a year or two, your still want to go to U of M, then you could always transfer from there.

You still have a lot of time to decide though. You probably don’t have to apply to WCC now, I’m sure you could apply anytime later and they’d accept you in a heartbeat.

I had a 3.4 and I got in. And only a 30 ACT. Numbers aren’t everything (but they do mean a lot though).

I had a 3.5 and 2090. Below 25th percentile critical reading scores. I think what made up for it though was my dedication to my prospective major. Anyways the point is, numbers aren’t everything.

hmmm i had a 28 ACT and absolutely no ap classes or test scores (well my school also doesn’t offer any). my school also has it so that we don’t have GPAs or ranks… and i got in. but michigan is also familiar with my school and understands our different education system…
