Hi! I'm a senior in high school trying to plan my life and stressing out every minute!!

I applied to 10 schools, and have finally narrowed it down to 4. U michigan, Florida state, university of Florida, and penn state university park. (Wait listed at michigan) & expecting to be denied, so out of the other 3, where should I attend in the fall?

I plan to major in IT or marketing. Applied everywhere as a marketing major, but as an Econ major to psu. Probably going to change it to IT or something eventually, but I plan on transferring into smeal if i decide later I want to major in marketing for sure.

Basically, I just want to go to a school that I love, but be able to find a job afterwards. I know it's all about networking/interns and I plan to do that, but what are your opinions about where I should attend? (Have to add that I am in love with FSU) will it be a stupid decision to go there when the other schools are better?

You want to go to a school that you love but you haven’t told us what you love!

Now that you have gotten into some good schools, which of these schools will allow you to do your best work? where will you be happiest? which do you love the best? are you a person who likes to be driven by outside forces or are you one who drives him- or herself from within? do you like the cold? do you mind walking 20 minutes across campus when it’s 20 degrees and blowing hard? if you chose the heat, would you spend all your time outside not getting much done? These are the kinds of questions that only you can answer.

The other one you have to answer is what it will cost you and your family to go to each of these schools. There’s no need to leave undergrad with more than 20K in personal debt nor to impoverish your family. So choose wisely when it comes to costs, too.

It’s so much more than the reputation of the school that matters. That’s of almost no importance 99% of the time.

Absolutely hate the cold, but I am afraid that if I get a degree from a school in Florida, I will be limited to only work in Florida or the south.

I am very ambitious and I believe I will be motivated to work hard no matter where I am. Definitely want to work in a city though, just would rather have a campus for college.

If by saying IT, you mean a major in MIS within a college of business, then avoid FSU. It appears that they have moved the MIS major into the Management Dept and will only teach technical track classes for as long as they still have faculty to teach them. I wouldn’t recommend FSU to my kid for MIS.

Penn St and Florida would be better options.

I live in Pennsylvania, but after first year at Florida my mom would move to floors a because all the test of my family is there. It would end up being cheaper to go to uf or FSU than penn state. I did not get bright futures because I am out of state. Also, I am not positive I want to do MIS, it is just a thought. I originally applied as a marketing major, but after some thought and opinions from others I decided that I need a major more marketable, so I am still pretty undecided under business

You wouldn’t be in-state after a year, but might be after two years. Your parent has to be a resident for 12 months before the start of a semester/quarter for you to change status. Still, it is inexpensive for OOS in florida.

Okay well the point is I would really rather go down south to Florida, I just don’t want to be limited to only finding jobs in Florida if my degree is from FSU or uf.

You would NOT be limited to finding jobs in Florida (plenty of FSU/UF grads work in the NE), however, if you do want to work in the NE, PSU does give you an advantage, if nothing else it’s large alumni network (as would FSU/UF in the southeast).

lots of carpetbagging gators and seminoles here in the DC area ;+)

you want to go to a school you’ll love. you hate the cold. seems it’s settled then: the state of Florida, it is. As to the benefits of FSU business over UF business, I cannot help you. Good luck.

UF has higher rated programs in your areas of interest than FSU does (if rankings matter to you). You will not be limited to the state of Florida with a degree from UF.

NO. You’re not instate as soon as your mom moves. You might be instate after she’s there for 2 years. It takes at least 12 months to get residency.

You’d still have to pay 2 years of OOS costs at a Florida public, even if your mom moved after one year.

Would your mom pay the high OOS costs for the first two years? IF not, then how would you afford to go?

Financial aid and loans. But I have a grandmother that talked to people and said I could establish residency with her as soon as I decide to go down there, so after 12 months I would be a resident. And are you saying that if I go to FSU I will be limited to Florida then?

When did you apply to FSU and UF? FSU already released their decisions mid-December. I think you could still apply after that but there aren’t a lot of spots left. As for UF, your scores would have to be stellar being out of state. Decisions come out February 14. My D applied to UF so am anxiously awaiting the decision on that one. She got accepted to FSU. What are your grades and scores like? Are you competitive for the FL schools?

Financial aid and loans. But I have a grandmother that talked to people and said I could establish residency with her as soon as I decide to go down there, so after 12 months I would be a resident. And are you saying that if I go to FSU I will be limited to Florida then?

Florida publics aren’t going to give you FA. You’re not a resident. And FL publics rely on Bright Futures for aid to their instate kids and you don’t qualify.

YOU can only borrow $5500 as a frosh. That won’t pay for a FL public.

Your grandmother is wrong.

But, even if my some miracle you got residency after one year, you don’t have the money or the loan-ability to borrow for the first year.
