Strong appllication and very strong portfolio for NYU, less strong Common App essay

I just applied for NYU's recorded music program as a Fall 2011 Freshman. My weighted GPA is nearly 4.2 and my SAT score is 2000. I take many honors and AP classes, and my music resume (shortened in the extra-curricular Common App section and full in the portfolio) is extensive and very impressive.

I also feel that my Recorded Music portfolio is the best thing I've ever made to showcase my accomplishments. It shows my talent, skill, and versatility in performing, songwriting, recording, etc, and it includes an impressive statement of intent, one of the best essays I've ever written, a professional photo, and a lauding recommendation letter from someone who recorded my original songs in his studio. His band has sold nearly 7 million albums and won an AMA in the early 90's.

The only concern I have with my application is that I submitted the Common App to another, less selective school prior to this one and I didn't realize that I couldn't go back and edit my Common App essay. It's decent, grammatically correct, and it has personality, but I don't think it's very exceptional. Do you think that "pretty good but not great" Common App essay and typical applicant GPA will hurt my chances of getting in? My short-answer "essays" for the NYU supplement were also impressive, so maybe those will balance out the general acceptance.

Does anyone know how the app process works between regular undergrad admissions and Tisch? I hope that my portfolio will give me that extra push to the acceptance list.

Also, does anyone know where I should post about college audition stuff? Is there a section specifically for threads about arts schools?

make another version of the common app - you can alter that one and fix the essay up.

just check the FAQ part on the left hand column, then click versions on the list of help topics.

That probably would have helped me a few days ago, but the deadline was yesterday and I’ve already applied. I’m just having post-submission worries. Do you think my situation has a good chance of coming to a favorable close based on the fact that I can’t go back and change anything?

Also, if this makes any difference, my math & reading composite SAT score is 1360. As before stated, my score including the writing portion is 2000.
