I just applied for NYU's recorded music program as a Fall 2011 Freshman. My weighted GPA is nearly 4.2 and my SAT score is 2000. I take many honors and AP classes, and my music resume (shortened in the extra-curricular Common App section and full in the portfolio) is extensive and very impressive.

I also feel that my Recorded Music portfolio is the best thing I've ever made to showcase my accomplishments. It shows my talent, skill, and versatility in performing, songwriting, recording, etc, and it includes an impressive statement of intent, one of the best essays I've ever written, a professional photo, and a lauding recommendation letter from someone who recorded my original songs in his studio. His band has sold nearly 7 million albums and won an AMA in the early 90's.

The only concern I have with my application is that I submitted the Common App to another, less selective school prior to this one and I didn't realize that I couldn't go back and edit my Common App essay. It's decent, grammatically correct, and it has personality, but I don't think it's very exceptional. Do you think that "pretty good but not great" Common App essay and typical applicant GPA will hurt my chances of getting in? My short-answer "essays" for the NYU supplement were also impressive, so maybe those will balance out the general acceptance.

Does anyone know how the app process works between regular undergrad admissions and Tisch? I hope that my portfolio will give me that extra push to the acceptance list.
