Strong music departments at California colleges.

What is known about the qualities of music departments at the California univerisities, public and private ones, top and safeties?

Particularly, my D is interested in Stanford and Pomona (among top private), UCB, UCSD, UCD (among public ones); and I'm curious about musical quality of some safeties like Santa Clara University, Chapman University, University of Redlands, University of Pasific. Also, I have heard that music (and linguisitcs) departments are strong at UCSC, but have no idea how it's compared with, say, UCD or UCSB or UCI (which all are academically stronger than UCSC, in general) in those fields.

If anybody have any information on the subject, please, share. :-)

Out of all the Ca schools, my son applied to Redlands, UCSB (College of Creative Studies...composition) and USC. Problem that he saw with many of the schools was their adjunct professors who move from school to school. But in the end, I think it depends more on the student who desires to pursue music, their efforts, more than where they attend.
