Struggling with common app essay

Listen I know I’m not a good writer but I am a good student ad feel like I deserve a chance but am afraid colleges will write me off for my essay. Does anyone have any tips on how to make the essay sound less cheesy and make the readers get a better feel of who you are? Also if anyone would be willing to read my essay that would be extremely appreciated.

don’t write something cliche; write something that you can think of thats unique to you and only you; it can literally be anything you do, but don’t choose something common. Maybe something you do in your extracurriculars, clubs, something about your interests and how they shaped you?

It is fine (preferable) to be sincere in your essay, if that is what you mean by cheesy. A revealing essay that shows something about you that they can’t see from the rest of your application is much better than a glib one that shows no real emotion or growth. Agree that you need to avoid clichés, though.

The best advice I ever got for my essay was too get rid of the word “you”. Unless it’s super intentional, don’t use it. It made my essay so much better.
