Stuck........

Hi guys. I'm currently a sophomore business major at Case Western and I'm starting to apply for internships for next summer. However, the dilemma that I'm facing is that almost every internship I try to apply for has at least a 3.0 minimum gpa. I'm stuck with a 2.7.....

During freshman year I was a biochemistry major but didn't do well at all. I racked up 2 Cs in both my math classes and another one in physics. Over the summer I decided to switch over to business because I just completely lost interest in the sciences and I also sat in some of my friend's business classes and could actually pay attention to what the professor was saying.

Now in my sophomore year which I'm technically a freshman academically, I have a 4.0 so far. If I can hold on to my 4.0 till the end of the semester my gpa will be a 3.2.

So I guess my question is what should I do? Can I apply for the internships now and try to explain my situation? Or should I wait till my gpa comes out after the fall semester and apply?

Thanks so much!

I know this is really old, but I don’t want to start a new thread.
So… bump!

I’m sorry that nobody answered you. If I was you, I would simply wait until the Spring semester and apply then for a few reasons:

You don’t want a company to stop considering you because of your CURRENT GPA.

A company doesn’t have to know that you HAD a 2.7 but rather that you have a 3.2.

Thanks

I would apply to those internships anyway, but on your resume show your new major’s GPA instead of your over all GPA.

Thanks for the reply guys. I am going to apply for internships this winter break. Grades are starting to roll out now so I think I can get my new gpa. I am still waiting on two more grades which should be As to make my 4.0. If i did get a B in one of my classes my gpa would be around a 3.1 overall.

Other then keeping my grades as high as i can what other things can I do to compensate for my low gpa?
