Hi I'm a finance major with a 3.19 gpa. I have a problem. I can't seem to get an internship. I'm now in the spring semester of my junior year and I still have no relevant work experience. Can anyone suggest ideas for getting some?

I have applied to plenty of internships, just nothing has come of it.

How many internships have you applied to?

Have you had anyone unrelated to you review your resume and cover letter?

What industry or industries have you been looking to enter? Would you consider other industries?

What do you want to do when you grow up? What are your plans for when you are 22? 25? 30?

I have applied to over 20 internships. One interview from with northwestern mutual so far.

I have has the career center at my school review my resume multiple times and they always say its good.

I would like to do consulting or corporate finance. But am open to other areas. I can always change career paths later as I’m planning to get an MBA at some point.

I used to want to do ib but I lean more and more towards consulting all the time. But I would be fine with climbing the corporate ladder as well. Dream job: CFO

I would question your career services; it’s almost impossible for a college kid to write a stellar resume that needs no modifications. Feel free to send it over to me and I’ll tear it to shreds for you. I’m familiar enough with the process that I might be of use to you in that regard.

20 internships is not very many to apply to. I applied to more than 50 companies for my FT job, and internsihps tend to be even more selective since fewer companies offer internships. With online applications making it incredibly easy to apply, it is a major struggle to stand out.

More questions:

What is your GPA, if you don’t mind my asking?

Do you write a cover letter for each job, or do you plug in companies’ names while just making little changes here and there before sending it out?

Right now, would you rather do IB or consulting? It’s okay if you’re not sure, too. I ask because you should focus your efforts on the industry you want to enter this summer specifically.

They made modifications to my resume, but recently they haven’t found anything to change.
I have a 3.194
I generally write a new cover letter for each company. But use similar formats for each. I think I would actually rather do consulting.
