Student Advantage

I just got this email about the Student Advantage program which offers discounts for an annual fee, but I am not sure it is worth it since there are many free discount and cashback programs available through commercial websites. Does anyone have this and what does it offer that may be unique?

<quote>access to more than 15,000 participating discount locations including Amtrak, Greyhound and Foot Locker. Plus, cardholders can save online at Target, T-Mobile, eBags, BookRenter and more! </quote>

I don’t have one but I’m definitely getting it because it saves 12% monthly fees on my parent’s Tmobile family plan( I called to make sure haha). Plus, correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure at Northeastern, the StudentAdvantage Card costs only an one time fee of $55 for all five years.

“Traditionally, students have had to purchase the Student Advantage Card separate from their ID at $20 per year. However, Northeastern students can add five years of Student Advantage benefits directly to their Husky Card for just $55!”

Does the 12% T-mobile count for prepaid plans or just postpaid? A quick search on the web seems to indicate that prepaid plans are excluded from the discount.

I just got the prepaid $30 per month unlimited 4G Data + text + 100 minutes. A similar post-paid plan costs about twice as much. So 12% savings is still more than the $30 plan.

hmm im not sure…the student advantage website says 10% for “recurring” charges so probably they do. there wasn’t much detail on the website so i called up tmobile and they said it was 12% and not 10%. just call 877) 453-8824, it’s a specific line for tmobile student advantage questions!!

I also have the Student Advantage card. The big thing I used it for when I first got it was that everyone in my family got cell phones (for $100 of the Verizon price, each), so that paid for itself right there. It also has a 15% discount on Amtrak, and I often take the train to and from school, so that’s great for me.
