student council

I want to run for the president of our school's student council. Normally it's a popularity contest, I know. But I want to give it a try. Need some help here - honestly I don't even know what our school's student council does. I have two questions I may get some ideas from you all:
(1) What things your student council does that you think are good?
(2) what does it do anyway? activities? and stuff.
(3) how to run for a president?
(4) any ideas will be appreciated.

“I don’t even know what our school’s student council does.”

Why do you want to run then?

because I think it SHOULD do something! don’t you think? What does it do in your school?

1) At my school, SCA helps plan everything from pep rallies to Homecoming to Prom…they help get things arranged like if we do canned food drives and stuff like that. I guess it’s pretty good at my school, because they really help out and plan it out and do stuff.

2) Like I said, they help plan things…each class of officers help to do stuff for that class…like we have a fundraiser where we have buckets for each class and dollars put in another classes bucket make them lose, and the more pennies in your own class’ bucket helps you, and the officer carry them around during lunch to get it…they all make homecoming parade floats, that type of thing. Senior officers help plan the senior picnic and graduation/they all give graduation speeches.

3) Well, if it’s anything like my school, you talk to the SCA adviser, fill out an application, and then put up posters and stuff. This year the class officers stayed the same, no one challenged them, so it wasn’t really anything at all for class of 2015.

4) Well, I don’t really know what else to put…don’t say “I’ll eliminate homework” or something stupid that we all said in elementary school. Just say that you’ll be involved and work to have fun stuff to do during the year. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask or PM me!

Good luck, smluza! :)

You should NEVER, I repeat NEVER, do an extracurricular just because you feel as though you should. You should do what you want to do. Colleges want to see ECs in which you excel, and it is impossible to excel in something that you feel obligated to do and are not passionate about

I have sort of similar issue. My school’s student council is so quiet and inconspicuous that I think something needs to be done about it.

I think shmluza meant that something should be done about their student council, not that they wanted to do it for no reason.
