Just got an email about the premiums going up from last year.....was $97.00 per month for a 12 month cycle. Now increased to $2413.00 for 3/4 of the year? As a freshman parent sure would have loved this information BEFORE weighing the pros and cons to all colleges, as this now makes the choice of SB the most expensive among the UC's that admitted my student. Causes a budget change that is significant. GRRH

They raised health care costs by almost $1000 dollars for next year and that’s pretty much everyone’s reaction. The good news is that you can waive it. My freshman year we waived the health care. Our waiver application got denied at first (apparently most people’s do), but was approved on appeal. The only catch is they absolutely won’t let you waive it if you have Kaiser since there are no Kaiser hospitals nearby.

Also, all UCs are planning on switching away from the UC wide health care, SB was just the first to do it. Most if not all UCs will change their health care plan within the next year or two. This is their way of pulling in more revenue after their plan to raise tuition was shot down.

Not true, I have Kaiser and they accepted it. There is a Kaiser located in Ventura.
