Student Jobs

For any current Rochester students, or anyone that knows anything on the topic, what are the opportunities for student employment on the campus? I have been looking around the internet trying to find a comprehensive list of things students can do, but can’t find one.

My kid worked for housing. Also became an RA. Jobs were fairly easy to find.

D2 worked as a paid research lab assistant. Her job was non-WS. She also worked as a TA for the math and bio depts. and as a math tutor for the NROTC. She had friends who worked in various university offices, as tech support for Rees library, as a library aide (reshelved books and manned the check out desk), in the Call Center. Another had a job as a tutor for educational disadvantaged elementary school children.

Once you’re registered as student and have UR ID, you can sign in to the Career Center and look at the student jobs posting. The listings are not available to the public.

Forgot to mention, my kid also worked to work, not as a requirement. Library jobs are generally considered good ones. ResLife as a job was pretty laid back from what she said.

UR had a job fair early in freshman year. D attended and she had someone from classroom technology walk up and offer her a job! Worked there all 4 years.

As a cautionary note, there may be jobs you can’t qualify for because of time commitments or skills. But there are jobs.

Did anyone else get university employment as part of their financial aid package? Did everyone? I wonder if that means we have preference when it comes to getting employed.

If you get work study, you will definitely get a job. They make that happen. It’s not part of everyone’s aid package.
