does anyone know how dominated northwestern's student publications are by medill students? is it impossible to get involved if you aren't in medill, particularly among independent publications such as north by northwestern or stitch?

as a former contributor to the daily northwestern and NBN (as well as a medill-turned-weinberg student) i’d say that more independent and relatively new publications are more accessible to non-medillians. that doesn’t mean that they are staffed entirely by history or english majors, or that the daily is 100% medill. but, in my experience, these more “progressive” groups tend to attract more non-journalism people. truth be told, however, anyone–and i mean anyone–can get involved with any campus publication if interested.

i’m an engineer and work for NBN.

NBN is not as Medill dominated as you expect it to be. Our editor is in Weinberg and a lot of section editors are non Medillians too.
