Student Population and partying

Hey guys! Just got accepted into NU. Im wondering what the student population is like. Is it super nerdy/geeky? How is the partying? Does it feel small or big or what? I visited but I didnt get a great feel of the student population
Any and all info is welcome and appreciated

Hello! I am currently a student at Northeastern and I’m about to finish up my freshman year. The student population is so diverse and that’s one of the greatest things about the school. There is no overwhelming theme to the population, there are nerdy people, there are the “popular” kids, but no matter what kind of people you get along with you’ll find them. The school also has a huge international population so it offers an awesome opportunity to be friends with people from so many other places around the world (something you won’t get at a state school that has mostly kids from that state).

I came from a tiiiiiny high school (37 in my graduating class) so a school of 20k+ kids was a huge change for me, but I’m very surprised at how small it can feel. It feels big in some sense as there are so many different people doing different things around the campus and through the university, but it feels small at times too because no matter where I’m walking I always see people I know. It’s also really easy for different communities to form (through various clubs, programs, majors, floors in dorms, and classes) so it’s a way of making a big school smaller.

I’ll be honest, partying isn’t that fantastic. Greek life isn’t that huge on campus, but there are usually frat parties on the weekends. Girls don’t have any trouble getting in, but if you’re a guy, it’s really not an ideal situation. However, the greatest thing about Northeastern being in Boston is being able to go to parties at other schools in Boston! I’ve been to MIT, my friends go to parties at Harvard and BU, and there are other great options as well. I’m not a huge partier, I prefer to drink with close friends in a dorm so I’m not too upset about the lack of a lot of partying. Basically, the party life is there if you want it and if you don’t, it won’t inhibit your experience at college at all.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask, I hope this helped!

Current sophomore - @NUstudent2019 got it pretty right, but I wanted to add a few things.

Partying, while not big, especially in terms of frats, is certainly here, but the style is small (5-15) groups in dorms and apartments. As mentioned, there’s a lot of smaller communities that make up NEU, and usually within those there’s lots of small get togethers and parties in the style mentioned before.

In terms of size - walking around daily it can feel big, but in almost any group it feels small - I also came from a high school of less than a hundred people per grade and while it feels bigger for sure, it’s very manageable.
