Student Self Help Expectation

What does this mean under my awards? My EFC on my FAFSA says 0, and the Student, Parent and Additional Contributions under My Awards says 0, but under Student Self Help Expectation is says $3,500. Does this mean I have to contribute $3,500 out of pocket? B/c my family doesn’t have that kind of money.

It’s bothering me, A LOT :(

yes, that’s the expectation. subtract the free money the school’s giving you from your total cost of attendance. if there’s a $3500.00 difference, then that’s the amount the school expects you to pay. it’s not all due at once, it’s due each quarter (divide 3500 by 3). also, the number is an estimate. there are some things you can do to make it less expensive (buy/rent cheaper books, live in a double or even triple in the dorms, eat a cheaper meal plan, etc.). in other words, some expenses are within your control to a certain extent.

if you applied and are awarded an outside scholarship, that’ll reduce your student expectation.

yes, as stated above, you (or your family) are expected to contribute towards your
education. The $3500 represents a likely amount that a student could earn through
a part time job during the school year and/or summer employment.
