Students applying to UWC in 2020

Hey! Just curious who has already applied or will be applying to UWC through their respective National Committees in 2020 for the academic session starting from 2021. I am applying through the Indian National committee. And do let me know when will the Indian NC be contacting the applicants for the interview round?

hi @theweirdkid i am also applying through Indian National Committee . so are you done?

yes. Which grade are you in?

And also, when do you think applicants are gonna hear from them about the decision?

Hi, Iā€™m a current UWC RBC student (22), if you have any questions about UWC Iā€™d be happy to answer them

Hi @ā€œUn@ā€ I was wondering What minimum percentage (CBSE) is required to get into Uwc ? Because I am currently in 11th and I messed up my 9th grades (82%) but I got (92.2%) in 10th so is it fine?
And are you an Indian?

Every NC is different, but overall grades are not at all the most important part of UWC, they are looking for passion, determination, and a genuine want to make the world better. Yes UWC is academy rigors and they donā€™t want to send someone how canā€™t handle it, however showing commitment to learning is far more important than grades. I applied in 10th grade through the US NC and had a 97% in 9th grade.

Thanks for that @ā€œUn@ā€ and also which UWCs are you placed in if you require a full scholarship? Because there are some UWCs which offer more scholarships in general than others. I gave my 1st preference as Pearson college, 2nd as Uwc USA and third as Atlantic College

It really depends on your NC, what scholarships they have been by the different UWCā€™s, and how what scholarship money the NC has. Between my NC and RBC I got a full scholarship.

Hey yā€™all, late to the thread but Iā€™m also applying to UWC this year (US national committee)!

A couple weeks ago I was invited to interview with them in January; Iā€™m super excited but have no idea what to expect - UWC attendees, what was your experience like?

Best of luck to all of you, I hope weā€™ll be co-years!

Hello fellow UWC applicants. I just submitted my application to the US National Committee yesterday so Iā€™m a nervous wreck. I was planning on doing Early Application, sadly my current schooling got in the way though. One of my friends applied though and heard back by November 3rd in regards to her interview status. Iā€™m nervously awaiting an email.

Good luck to you and your friend! Do you know when youā€™re supposed to hear back?

I heard some other applicants had the opportunity to rank their top choice schools, but I donā€™t think my application did (although itā€™s also possible I just missed something haha).

Which UWC(s) would you most want to attend?

There wasnā€™t any information on my application about when I should hear back. I thoroughly checked the website as well but I didnā€™t see any information.

I didnā€™t have the option to rank my top schools. I wish there was that feature on my application, it would have been nice to rank them. Currently Iā€™m most interested in UWC-RBC. I honestly wouldnā€™t mind going to any of the schools except for the one in the US. I live about forty five minutes away from it so itā€™s a little too close to home for my liking. UWC-CR also seems amazing as well. My friend is really interested in the one in Thailand due to itā€™s focus on mindfulness and athletics. I really value sustainability so RBC is my ideal choice. Do you have any in mind? Itā€™s so hard to even compare them because theyā€™re all so great and different.

Good luck to you in your application process! Itā€™s such an exciting, stressful thing so having as much support as you can get is great

Ooh those both sound amazing! Iā€™ve been binging youtube videos from current UWC students, including one in CR, which has just made the process even more nerve wracking - it looks like such an incredible environment, I donā€™t think Iā€™ve ever wanted to achieve anything so much in my life.

Iā€™d be honored to be able to attend any UWC, but my top choice is definitely UWC-LPC; Iā€™m super interested in foreign relations and conflict resolution (which they specialize in).

Itā€™s so nice to connect with other UWC applicants! I donā€™t know anyone else personally who is applying/attending a UWC, which has definitely made the process somewhat isolating. Iā€™m wishing you all the best on your application, let me know if you get an interview (only if you want, of course :))! Iā€™d expect you should know fairly soon, they said theyā€™d reach out to schedule individual interviews in December.

hey fellow applicants! iā€™ve also been binging yt videos on uwc and honestly, all the campuses look and sound amazing. iā€™ve been obsessed with boarding school life since i attended a camp for stem last year; it was so fun! unfortunately i cant afford most study abroad/boarding international schools so uwc was the only one i could find. regardless, im in love with the uwc movement and their message! since i applied through the national committee i didnt get to pick but i do like sustainability and computer science. not sure which campus that might be though haha

im pretty worried considering my application wasnt as strong as i wouldve liked and my grades are not as good as usual considering distance learning and all that jazz. any ideas on how important grades are in your application this year?

Hello,

Iā€™m a current UWC RBC student who applied to the US national committee. And you get a chance to rank your schools typically at the finalist weekend, but honestly theyā€™re all amazing and donā€™t worry about it too much. RBC was I think my fourth choice, and it would be my first if I did it again (no bias whatsoeveršŸ˜‰) Also I donā€™t think grades have ever been the biggest component, and Iā€™m sure theyā€™ll be understanding this year. With academics a love of learning and ability to keep up with the IB are whatā€™s important (and if you actually enjoy learning, and donā€™t mind putting in effort than the IB is definitely survivable)

@ziakatarzyna wow!! thatā€™s great!! We still have not been notified about our application resultsā€¦Our interviews will be conducted in February I think. But how did your Interview go?

@starcuriosity haha most of the kids like to live near home but I get where youā€™re coming from. Iā€™m the same. But tbh any UWC is great.
