Is there a wide variety of “types” of students at Gettysburg? I am unsure if Greek Life dominates the social scene and if the rural location creates a stronger community?
Also, if I am accepted to Gettysburg RD, why should I consider it over other schools like Dickinson, Lehigh, Bucknell, F and M?
If you are a current student here, please share what life is like at Gettysburg! I would love to know.
Greek life does dominate the social scene at Gettysburg. There are other social activities and opportunities outside of Greek life but know going in that Greek life is VERY popular. Gettysburg is unique in its location. It borders a National Park and the actual civil war battle took place across the campus. Re-enactors are often seen all around town, campus, and the battlefields. Adams County is very rural. You are not close to any major city. It is a great school. It doesn’t currently have a great deal of diversity but they continue to try and improve that. It is very similar with Dickinson, Lehigh, Bucknell and F & M. You could also throw Muhlenberg and Ursinus and few others into that same group. Similar schools, similar kinds of students. You would have to look closely at your intended major and see which schools are known for that specific focus. Best of luck to you!
Sorry, I am not familiar with Gettysburg’s Organization Society and Management major. I suggest that if you were to call and ask to speak with a senior in the program it could be arranged for you. Best of luck to you!
@Lana22 I want to learn from your research why Gettysburg has the better business program compared to Dickinson, F&M, Muhlenberg. Isn’t management (OMS) field hard to find work and managers are usually fist out of the door when economy goes bad. My daughter applied to those same LACs as you, and the quality of business school can sway her decision. Good luck to you.
Personally, I think Gettysburg has the best academic reputation and I have found a lot of helpful information on their website regarding the OMS major. Gettysburg business students are really attractive to employers because they have the ability to think critically, as well as communicate and understand management/organizational ideas. Also, I am really interested in adding on the Business minor which gives students an education in the core Business principles. From what I have heard, Gettysburg competes with slightly higher rated LACs than the ones that you listed. I think that many students also consider Lafayette, Lehigh (which you mentioned) and Richmond (UR has lots of kids from the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic area.
Gettysburg does have an intellectual, non-partying, segment of the student body. It isn’t the largest segment on campus but it does exist. Best thing to do, if feasible, would be a visit to see for yourself if you could picture yourself there. Go during the semester, take the admissions tour, then plan on hanging out in the library, the Bullet Hole, the cafeteria. Talk to everyone you can. The students, the employees, professors, staff. By the end of your visit you will hopefully have a better picture of the school and how you might ( or might not) fit in. Better to find out now before you have applied, or agreed to attend. Best of luck to you!
