I work at least 30 hours a week and now am getting a second job. Last semester, it was very difficult to keep up (4 hon classes + 1 reg= 15 cred), so i have toned it down a little bit this semester with only 1 hon classes and some regs =16 creds. I want to drop a class though because i do not think i can handle the work load. What do you guys think? Would it be okay to drop a class down to 13 credits? How would taking only 13 credits look on a tranfser app? I am taking a 4 cred class over the summer though sooo...total this year including the summer class will be 32 creds.

Those who are working over 30+ hrs and are in extra curriculars, how many credits are you taking?

i am currently attending my 2nd year at my jc, just turned 20 years old, male, taking 21 units (1 weight training class is part of this 21, so 18 ACADEMIC units, but all in all, 21..) and i do NOT work, THANK GOD.

the main reson why i choose not to work is attributed to personal issues/insecurity..

plus i want to use that any extra time that i have to play basketball 'cause it gets my mind of things.

if you have PERSONAL issues going on i highly advise you bro not to work (i'm not saying anyone does..just tryin to make a point).

work would only burden your life if you already got crap from school/home goin on.

baller4lyfe may not have the luxury of not working(correct me if I am wrong). It just seems that way to me because baller4lyfe wants to choose lighter class load than to work less hours and he is even getting a second job. I dont think cutting down the units does not necessarily make your transfer application look bad. On the transfer application there is a spot for employment work hours and often it can be discussed on the essay. The only way it might possibly hurt is that if you go in the situation you would lack units for transfer or acquire a lot of withdrawals which does not seem the case here.

Last semester I ended up working about 38 hours a week, took 21 units and still managed to keep a 3.9 gpa. Its possible to do well, but I highly advise against it for obvious reasons. The reason is because I did not have any choice because I am supporting myself while going to school. I also never qualify for financial aid because my parents make too much and they refuse to help me. I also cant get any loans because I have insufficient credit history and they won't cosign for me either.

Wow you guys are really inspiring me! maybe I'll take 5 classes without work. Baller4lyfe is kinda right about what he said, I still have some things to work out.

Either way I'll probably be able to afford it with both pell grant and texas grant. My efc is 0 :( but guess it pays off now that I can speed up my learning. I'll probably be taking 18 hours.

Damn man you have it hard. I'd be real ****ed off at my parents.

Classes are assigned units based on the number of hours you should spend on them outside of class. So I am taking 43 'units' which if you divide by 3 (the standard credit size) you get about 14. As you can see I'm slacking off since I'm behind about eight hours in studying!

Unfortunately I don't have those easy classes this semester. I'm taking no english classes and I am in calculus in 3-d, which is challenging enough for me!!
