Hi Guys!
I’m an incoming freshman, and I know that I have a long way to go before I can study abroad, but i have a few questions. Can you participate in one program in the fall and another in the spring? Is it hard to get into a program?
Hi Guys!

You can definitely petition to do two programs for the school year, but it isn’t encouraged. There are certain programs that require a full year (Dartmouth program, some Oxford schools, etc). Otherwise it’s the discretion of the Off-Campus study committee to decide whether they’ll permit you to go both semesters for two different programs. It also depends on the number of students who want to go for each semester. Usually the spring semester is a more popular option for abroad.
There’s multiple things to consider when going abroad as well. There’s the typical GPA requirements, but also once you become a sophomore here, you’ll realize that certain programs fit your major requirements better than others. Certain departments have a lot of programs where they’ll accept credit from, and other departments might only have four or five programs where you can transfer credits towards your major. If you’re also planning on doing a double major/double minor, etc - you should also consider whether you’ll be put in a corner for your senior year in terms of courses by going abroad the whole year.
Anyhow, you still have a long ways to go, so have a good freshman year and then consider your choices after consulting your major advisor in your sophomore year.
Welcome to the Mule Pack!
Thank you so much!
Hi, I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering if anyone is aware of the summer abroad opportunities at Colby?
