Study Abroad for Pre-med

can any of you guys recommend programs abroad that would still allow me to take my premed courses. I really don't want to fall behind. Also are there any that are for a quarter? All the ones i have found would require me missing two quarters!

Thanx!

i don't think there are any. But it's totally doable to finish your major and all premed requirements in 3 years and take an entire year off for study abroad. you'll just have to take pretty much 4 classes every quarter and spend maybe one summer taking classes. Also, there are semester abroad programs that start in july and end in december, so you'll really only miss your fall quarter.

you should also look beyond UCLA and think about those volunteer abroad or spanish/italian/etc abroad programs that allow you to decide how many weeks you wanna stay abroad. the volunteer abroad ones are quite a lot cheaper than UCLA's EAP, and you can usually stay anywhere from 1 to 12 weeks, stay with host family, volunteer for half a day, take free spanish lessons for the other half, and have weekends to yourself. And these programs usually let you start on any Monday of the year, so they're very flexible. And you can easily fit a 12-week volunteer abroad experience into the summer and not have to miss any quarters. I know for premed, it's also a big plus to be at least somewhat fluent in Spanish. So why not volunteer abroad in, say, Argentina or Chile or Uruguay for a summer?

you can consider taking a few ge classes when you are abroad. then, you won't really be "falling behind". also, if you go for fall semester, you will only be missing fall quarter (as opposed to spring semester, which will force you to miss winter and spring quarter).
