Study abroad programs for science majors?

So...I've never gotten the opportunity to travel internationally before. Yes yes, I know that most study-abroad programs are aimed at language-development, but I definitely don't know enough Japanese to be able to take a class in the native language. But, as long as the class(es?) are conducted in english, I'm fine!

I'm still a bit decided on my major. Either biochem or molecular bio, something that gives a solid background for genetics. That said, I appreciate all parts of science, from astrophysics to zoology. Though, I would prefer it fall somewhere within the necessities of such a major. A geology class probably wouldn't be apropos for me, haha.

I know they exist! Haha, a lot of STEM majors don't think so. I'm working with an adviser to find some suitable programs, but, in the mean time, I figured I'd ask the nice and knowledgeable people of CC :)

Any thoughts on where you would like to study? I have seen some biology oriented programs on the SUNY study abroad network…you can do a program search somewhere on the suny.edu website. I believe SUNY Geneseo and/or Brockport were the sponsoring schools.

Not particularly. I just need to get out! Haha. I guess just an english speaking country, since I’m not having any luck finding english-instructed classes in primarily non-english speaking countries. And I’m just fine with that!

So…New Zealand, Australia, the UK, maybe a tropical island?

Hi Cloak,

My own university, Tsukuba, might be appropriate for you. We are one of the top ranked unis in Japan, and have a program called Global 30 which is specifically aimed at people like you. First year is free, and tuition is much cheaper than comparable US schools. We even have on campus housing. All classes are in English,

Our website can be found at [College degrees taught in English in Japan | University of Tsukuba](http://www.global.tsukuba.ac.jp)

I am a freshman at Ball State Univeristy in Indiana, and ever since I started looking into this school, I have heard so much about how the study abroad program rocks, and I think every major is able to participate. Here is the link for the Study Abroad website for prospective students:

I hope this helps you!

IFSA-Butler is a study abroad provider a lot of people use when studying abroad in England, New Zealand and Australia (at large universities where you’ll be able to find science classes). You may also look into DIS in Copenhagen, Denmark which offers science classes in biology (i believe). Classes taught in English.

Look at Dickinson, they have Study Abroad for every major. It’s a very developed program.
