Studying abroad:How does it affect your Financial aid?

<p>I was thinking about studying abroad in Waseda Japan next year... but the costs are:</p>

<p>Tuition……………………………………$16,073
Additional Expenses*………………$23,106
Total………………………………………$39,179</p>

<p>Notice how the tuition is only 16K. Now, I'm receiving 38K in grants which covers all my tuition for USC. If i study abroad for a year, will USC only give me 16K for the entire year to cover Waseda's tuition? Much as I want to go, I can't cover extra 23K even with my extra loans.</p>

<p>Did anybody see changes with financial aid (especially grants) when they studied abroad? I'm sure USC didn't give them the same amount... (If they did I wouldn't have any problems, sigh). I really want to study abroad but if I can't cover the costs, I guess I'll go to another country or just take a year off and study by myself in another country.</p>

<p>PS/// And by the way, did anybody take the Japanese proficiency test from the testing center? How was it? Or has anybody taken Japanese II yet? I dont know if I'll have time to study japanese II, so I'm thinking about testing out. I can understand alot, but I can't read... so are there alot of kanji in the test? Also if I'm taking Japanese II in the next spring, could I go studying abroad by next Fall? Thanks!</p>

<p>The key is that you need to go talk to the study abroad office. Financial aide will change a bit when studying abroad, but the only way to figure out exactly how is to talk to the advisors.</p>

<p>USC cost of attendence is around $50K
But the overseas is only $40K which means that most likely the difference will be $2-3K from work study (you don't get this when you go abroad), and about a $7-8K decrease in grants/loans. </p>

<p>Any excess of the grant that isn't applied to the 16K tuition should be credited to your bank account which you can use for the misc expenses.</p>
