Studying abroad money finances (Italy)

I've financed that I've saved enough (while exchanged to euros) I will have about 820 euros each month.
I will be staying in Torino, Italy. Is this enough for meals and travel throughout the month/personal expenses?

Thank you

(I should add I’m only staying 4 months)

You’ll be fine with 820 euros a month! Assuming, of course, you do live somewhat like a student. If you’re living in a shared apartment or a dorm with a kitchen, around 50 euros a week (so, 200 euros a month) is plenty for food. That will leave you something for travel and fun. Have a great time!

Do you mean you have 820 Euro a month just for food, personal expenses and travel? Or do you need to pay rent out of that too? I’m curious because I’m in the process of deciding how much my daughter is going to need to live on for four months in Bologna. I thought I’d give her $2400 for rent, so about 450 Euro per month for an apartment but don’t know how much she’ll need per month for food, personal expenses and travel to other places during the weekends etc. If anyone has an idea of these costs I’d appreciate input. Thanks!

Hi luvsgelato,

I found this:

“The average monthly rent for a single room is € 330,00 and € 240,00 for a shared room (not including bills), but these prices can even be higher when demand is particularly strong, that is in September and October.”

Budgeting a $100 dollars per week for food at home and going out a couple of times is a safe estimate.

Whenever I studied abroad I made sure to cover the basics safely - food and shelter - the rest was luxury!

:)

Thanks magellan26! Looks like she will be able to find something at 450Euro without a problem. I think I’ll give her about $20 a day for food etc. and she should be fine.
