Stuff to do when friends are busy?

All my friends are studying or going home this weekend which leaves me with nothing to do. I go to UT, so there's no shortage of parties, but I'm not really into going to parties on your own, getting wasted, and passing out in front of strangers. I suppose that I could just study and go to bed early, but who'd want to do that on a friday night? Any ideas?

Is there nothing to do in the city of Austin? I thought it was supposed to be like the best place for young people.

Walk around the area! That could be fun sometimes even if you are alone.

Or stay in and watch movies. Usually, I watch 2 movies and then just pass out on my bed on Friday nights. (It sounds so boring when I type it out, bleh)

Austin is a great place for young people if you’re with someone else. I can’t imagine going down to sixth street or going to a concert alone

Concerts alone?! I go to concerts alone all of the time! Although, I sometimes do wish I had a friend to tag along, but nevertheless, if you enjoy a band very much, you don’t care if you didn’t have a friend there with you.

Just stick it out. It is only one weekend! How about the friends that are still at school, but studying? I’m sure they are not studying all day! Ask them to take a break and hang out for food or something.

Mushaboom’s post about movies brings up another favorite lonesome pastime of mine: masturbation

Watch movies or maybe start watching a tv shows that’s been on for a while… that’ll fill up a lot of time.

It’s called reading on CC, remember?

^ Yeah seriously DCHurricane, how could you forget?!! Shame on you!

OP, if you are extremely bored I suggest you watch TV and read a book… maybe at the same time.

my memory is short :(

speaking of which, we need Orson to return from the grave

Wow, seriously. There are SO many things happening this weekend in Austin its not even funny. Check all the music venues I’m sure one of them will be playing something that catches your interest (Emos, Stubbs, the Parish, Antones, etc etc). The Texas Book Festival is this weekend at the Capitol. Go to one of the museums? If you haven’t been I HIGHLY suggest taking the 1M/1L down to south congress and just going in all the shops and hitting up the food carts and Amys Ice Cream. Uhmmm there are like a bazillion super awesome performing arts centers that have awesome shows happening this weekend. Straight No Chaser at the Long Center and RENT is playing at the Zach Theater. Take the bus to one of the malls - Barton’s pretty nice. I am sure the Union has something going on - maybe the film committee are playing some movies or something. Maybe watch a movie at one of the Alamo Drafthouses? I prefer the one on South Lamar but there is one downtown.

I CANNOT believe that you have NOTHING to do in Austin. That’s just…impossible.

I have the same problem as the OP on weekends. So I decided to join the alpine club, which pretty much goes away for every weekend during the winter and spring to go practice skiing. But on the weekends without snow im pretty damn bored back in SB.

You can always pick your nose, which definitely has the potential to eat away a lot of time, especially if your facial orifice is somewhat clogged.

This place really isn’t the same without him.

join a frat so you don’t have this problem

Get some paper and a sharpie and make notes that you can put all over in your dorm that say you are looking for someone to hang out with. I bet there are other people there that are cool, you just have to find them.
