Stuff to do

I was looking for a swimming pool on campus to relieve stress and was told the nearest one was at Babson.
Does Olin have a fitness center?
Good food?
Time to go to real parties (not pirate vs ninja fights?
Sports other then ultimate frisbee?

As a prospective student, I heard that Olin provide excellent quality of food.
Olin now rank 6th in college food category by PrincetonReivew.

I was wondering the same question about swimming, Futureholds. I know Babson is next door to Olin (literally) - the Babson fitness center is probably closer than one would be at almost any other college. That said, does anyone know if Olin students have (free) access to Babson's center?

Hey. Students have free access to the Babson fitness center. The center has a swimming pool (mainly for lap swimming, though Olin was trying to start water polo), an indoor track, a workout room with a bunch of machines, at least one each squash and racquet ball courts, basketball courts and free classes in some kinds of dance/exercise that change from time to time.

Each dorm at Olin has an "exercise room" which consists of maybe 3-4 machines like a exercise bike and elliptical. They also have free weights and I think maybe exercise balls.

Many students use both Olin and Babson work out facilities.

The food at Olin, in my opinion, is excellent. I have now graduated and my current school cafeteria is so bad and has fewer choices than Olin. Olin's food is good. The only thing is that, being a small school, we can only have about 4 stations running at any given time. However, each of these stations have more than one thing. For instance, the grill has tons of different burgers, hot dogs, wraps, etc.

There are plenty of "real" college parties at Olin, mainly on Friday or Saturday nights. Babson and Wellesley also have parties. All three school also hold informal and formal dances from time to time.

Last I knew, you could play on any Babson club sports team. Many many Olin students play on the rugby team for example. Also, some Olin students have practiced with Babson varsity teams (we just can't complete in league games). For instance, I know some students practiced with the cross country team.

This year, I believe, Olin is trying to start a soccer team similar to the ultimate Frisbee team. Some students also play regular games of football and tennis with each other.

It is possible, that sometime in the future the set of 10 schools in division 3 near us will vote to let us join on our own or as part of Babson; however, I do not know how soon that may happen or if it every will. So it is safe to bet on club sports intramurals for now.

Also, be aware that many Olin students played varsity level sports in high school, so you will not be alone if you want to keep active and play sports. You can even try and start your own club team and find other schools to compete against. (Just keep in mind that some sports you can make a team with about 5 people and minimum equipment, like basketball, and other sports would require you to find 9 or more, like baseball or softball, and much more equipment).

I hope this helps!!

Can you define "real party" please...I mean you don't have to be all graphic or anything, but I've noticed that though most parties consist of just grinding, sometimes there's parties that focus on the breakdancers or w/e....

Real party = loud music and drinking games
Real party = social gathering in lounge with video games
Real party = Dressing fancy, having some drinks, and going clubbing

A "real party" can be very different to people at Olin. Everyone has a different comfort level, and most people respect that. I've mentioned three ideas above of what people do to "party" and have fun. Feel free to define your own idea of a "party" at Olin and make it happen.
