so i was trying to register for the nov test and the center i wanted was no longer available and I didn't select another one but they still took my money...and they have this policy but I don't quite understand...english isn't my native language so will you please excuse me but also please heeeeeeelp me!!!
the policy is the following :
"If you submit a test registration and neither of your test center choices are available, and you do not choose an alternate test center, a funds hold will remain on your credit card account until it expires, according to the policy of your credit card company (generally ranging from 24 hours to several days)."
so...finally what happened to my money...did I just loose it?
please help!

oh please have mercy of me...please answer me....anyone????

You can contact the SAT folks from the info at this website & explain you situation & ask them what to do at this point.

It might be best to speak with them. If you have a good guidance counselor at your school, maybe you can get him/her to contact them & help you. It really makes a difference when they help, at least at our school. Good luck!

well.....being an intl doesn't really help me...at my school i'm in the 1% people that are taking the sat's...so people here don't really know what the exam is really about....the chances of them speaking with the folks from CB are 0. as for contacting them...well..i already did it and I received a message from them that they received my message and that they'll answer me as soon as possible...but I am still waiting.
any other suggestions?

When you contact them by e-mail or phone, leave them your address, e-mail address & phone number where they can reach you, so you have the most likelihood of a timely response. They sent me the message that they received my message & then really did respond to our e-mail. How long have you been waiting? It may take them 24-48 hours. Could try sending them another e-mail if it's been longer than 24-hours. It can be tough getting all of this sorted out.

well....it hasn't past a whole day yet...but I'm a little bit anxiuos because I really want to get a registration for the test and the deadline is near and in my country there wasn't but one more center available...what if in two days even that center will be full???

there are 134 views of this topic and only one person answered! oh please people....anyone!...give me some advice!!!
what do they mean by:" a funds hold will remain on your credit card account until it expires, according to the policy of your credit card company (generally ranging from 24 hours to several days)."

I'm not an expert but I think it means that that money cannot be spent by you for a fixed number of days. But after that, the money is yours again to spend. If you have other money available now, you can still register for another test center.

so the money is mine even if I don't see it on my credit card...and will appear in several days?...that's the idea? cause I'm pretty confused right now...

Right now that money is "being held" but when it is released, it is your money again-

ok thanks....I hope you're right about it :).....so I guess I'll make another registration.

good luck!

so that happened to me last wednesday...now's monday...hmm...still haven't received that money. from CB I only recived a message telling me to phone them...but I'll probably pay on the phone as much as I would get back from them. any other suggestios?...haven't I waited enough time yet?

so I asked my credit card company...they said thay have no policy about this type of things.... don't know what to do next....my phone hasn't international access meaning I can't phone them from my cell (actually I can call Spain and other countries...still don't know why I'm not allowed to do this for the US....) anyway....anyone else?

or maybe the phone number they've given me in the email is wrong... :?

Hotels do the "funds held" thing all the time. Their way to secure a reservation. College Board has put a hold on the amount of money for the test and if you don't take it, no charge will be made. Just go ahead a register again - either they'll send a different registration number or automatically figure it out and use the held funds. Can't hurt to try or you'll never be registered.
Good luck.

well i did register, but with other money, they didn't give it back to me.... so...I should wait to receive my money back after the test or after the registration period is over?...is there still a chance?

The other money will never be put on your credit card. You should only see one charge. Either the charge will be for the registration you successully completed and there will be a hold on funds for the one that didn't work, or they used the held funds for the successful registration. Is there a phone # you can call to check on your credit card account status? They will tell you what has been charged and what is being held aside. Shouldn't be a problem. One charge is all you should see on your billing statement.

Here's an example - we had a hotel reservation and had funds held against it until we showed up at the hotel with a frequent flyer coupon for a free hotel night. Funds were never charged the account since we had it paid by the coupon.

wait just a minute.....sorry if I may sound stupid...just something I don't understand.
so....first I made the unsuccessful registrtion...no registration ticket...no nothing....then, when I tried to register later the money wasn't on my card anymore.....so I had to use other money to register. and I did. but the other money....I don't think I can find out from the bank if it is being held. what do you mean by: "the other money will never be put on your credit card"?...I mean....I paied 2 taxes...anly one was needed? so what about the hold on funds?....if I don't go? (I'm going but with the registration from the other money)
sorry.....I sound really stupid...I know...but I'm getting really confused....in Romania there aren't many things to buy with a credit card...so...I'm quite unfamiliar with the system.

The second time you registered will be charged against your credit card.

Do your registrations have different registration numbers on them? If so, they most likely used the funds that were being held from your first registration to pay for the second time you registered.

If the registration numbers are different, don't worry about two charges - there will definitely be one charge (for the second registration) and the other funds will be held against the account until they realize you didn't use that registration. Being held against the account doesn't mean they're actually charging you for the funds - they're just reserving that amount off of your available credit in case you DO use that registration.
