Style at Vanderbilt?

Hello! I was wondering what sort of clothes girls wear at vanderbilt? I know this is a semi-shallow queastion but I'm just curious:) I've heard lilly Pullitzer is big on campus, anything else?

You will see J.Crew, Patagonia, and Polo. However, most people just wear normal clothes – a lot of people are always concerned by this – but you don’t need to wear name brands to fit in or be popular.

My daughter reports that she knew girls in her freshman dorm who wore Ralph Lauren & Tory Burch flip flops into the shower if that gives you any idea; needless to say, she did not ($2 ones from Five Below work just as well!) It all depends on who you hang with and are trying to impress. To tie this in with your question on another thread–yes, the “top” sororities like DDD and Theta are not easy to get into but those girls are likely the ones wearing Tory Burch flip flops for the shower. This is not everyone on campus by any means; lots of girls are not in sororities or are in sororities where clothes from Macys or Old Navy are more prevalent. There is a wide variety of students from all walks of life at Vanderbilt but the one thing they have in common is that they are all very intelligent and were highly successful in high school.

I agree with the above. My D graduated in 2011. She wore whatever she wanted, and she did not feel uncomfortable. If you are the type who wants to fit in with a certain group, you may feel that you would need to dress a certain way … but if you are comfortable in your own skin, you will not feel out of place dressing however you want to dress.

Cowboy boots - yes, cowboy boots, are huge for Vanderbilt girls. Several years ago there was a show on TLC featuring the VUMC and one of the ER doctors there said they often have Vanderbilt girls in with horrible blisters as they break them in. There’s a place downtown near Hatch Show where you can get 3 pairs for the price of 2. If you decide this trend is for you, find 2 friends who share the same view and split the cost 3 ways.

My D is in one of the sororities mentioned above and I can assure you that she does not wear Tory Burch flip flops in the shower (or ever, for that matter). Most frequently, for class she wears a sorority t-shirt and athletic shorts, as do most of her sorority sisters. She has very few “name brand” clothes of any kind, unless you call the Gap a name brand. She buys her clothes from lots of internet stores for very reasonable prices. Although there will always be very wealthy kids at a school like Vandy, there are also tons of kids like my D whose parents are struggling to pay the full price of tuition and who do not waste money on things like designer clothes.
