Style Computer...

What computer do you think would be the best at CU? I was looking at either a dell, IBM, or alienware....which one do you think is the best...perhaps the most reliable...?

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated...

I Found You Rj!!!!

Thought you could hide hahah!

alienwares are the worst computers known to man

i got a dell laptop for christmas, it's pretty good

Shizz **** alienwares are awesome.

they are wayyyyy overpriced. and the few people i know that bought them have had major problems with it. if you are going to get an alienware, you'd might as use that money to custom-build a nice rig.

I'm getting an Alienware...their prices have gotten fair lately, and you can get a top-of-the-line system without overpaying. To custom-build a similar system may actually cost a lot more, depending on how nice a PC you plan to get. The newest components cost a lot when purchased individually. I configured an Area-51 5500 the other day just for fun, and was pretty happy with the price.

Alienware>Dell>IBM Slaps Shizz

But if you're looking for a PC for just the internet and word processing, don't get an Alienware. Get a cheap dell or go to your local computer store and get something else.

Alienwares are incredible...I think they're usually used for games and programs that take up mucho memory. And they are colorful too...^^

If you are really that into computer instead of seeing it merely as a tool, building one on your own is the way to go. Generally it's cheaper and you get to learn and customize it the way you like it. More work but it's fun.

If you have the money check out Voodoo Envy line. http://www.voodoopc.com/showRoom.aspx?categoryID=2&lineID=2
They have more choices than alienware and have some nice ultra-portable models.

Voodoo is amazing, but their upper models are just waaaay too expensive...I mean, if you need serious PC power, then get one, but they customize everything down to the last detail. They even tweak the bios and overclock the newest P4's for you. I'm sticking with an alienware, in "space black" with terra green lighting. Check out the website if you don't know what I'm talking about...

I've checked out voodoo comps but I got an alienware laptop instead for college. I chose a Sentia since it's super light and v. mobile with centrino and all that. Good to play games on too...

dell 700m...of course i'm a bit biased

Mac OS or Windows? I really want to get a Mac, but is Windows more compatible at Cornell? Does anyone know how wireless the campus is?

PerfectFourth--Mac compatability is not usually a problem... It can be networked with PCs and isn't usually a problem... Whichever os you are comfortable with is the one you should go with... I'd go with the mac for reliability purposes. And if you are into music as your name implies, you will definitely appreciate the Mac's abilities.

Wow - you got the music reference, not many people do. Yeah, Sibelius is something I definately want to have on my computer.

Alienwares are decent, but overpriced and overrated. If money isnt an issue at all, go with Falcon Northwest. If it's sort of an issue, but not really (i.e. you can afford alienware), then also check out Velocity Micro, ABS, or Hypersonic. I have a personal plug for Hypersonic: I run a Hypersonic Fury GX and it's been the most solid system I've ever used. Just shop around, but my personal opinion has, for a long time, been that Alienwares are way too overrated.

PerfectFourth- If you are into writing your own music, Finale is an excellent program which I use (I write stuff for my marching band). I would suggest trying it. If you aren't able to find a free copy of the software, my email is blackferrari2006@yahoo.com and I can try to send it to you. Let me know if you are interested. Otherwise, you can buy it for liuke $75 or so with all the instruction manuals and such-which are very very very helpful.

I really like the look of the Alienware and Voodoo notebooks, but I don't wanna shell out upwards of two grand to get it. Does anyone know of a way to get a reasonably priced mid-range notebook and have it fitted with a stylish (colored?) case?
