SU: ED applicants. Need to hear feedback!

  1. Do you think one of the main reasons why you were accepted to SU was because you did so ED?
  2. When you applied to SU ED, and accepted your offer, how generous was the financial aid? Did SU help you and your family get the best price possible?
  1. I was an ED applicant last year for Newhouse. I had no journalism experience, but I love to write, am willing to learn, and was adamant about wanting to receive my education specifically from Syracuse University as a whole and Newhouse. If you're applying to Newhouse, this is very, very important. Make them know that you want it. My essays weren't particularly long. All of them were 3 paragraphs each. I made a point in them though and let the school know how badly I wanted it.
  2. Syracuse gives very generous financial aid packages. If you have the need, they'll supply you with the money. Granted I'm still taking out 3 loans, but I'm not currently coming out of pocket for anything but books. I didn't have this problem, but if there is an issue with them giving too little, you can contact them and see if there's anything that they can do. In addition to this, the tuition and housing deposit together total $950. My family couldn't afford that so I emailed them and got it waived. The biggest thing when it comes to financial aid is to communicate. And not your parents, but you. You need to email, you need to call, if you end up here, you need to show up at the fin aid office.

Good luck! If you have any other questions I’m here!

Well I’m not planning on going to Newhouse. I plan on doing a dual major at the iSchool and Whitman. But how did you make the point that you really wanted to go to SU: Newhouse? What are some of the things you said? @Syracuse19

BTW, I don’t want to copy your responses, I just wanna get an idea.

Have you looked at the common app supplement for Syracuse yet? There are usually questions where you can do this (like, “Why Syracuse?” or “What will you bring to the campus?”. That is where you would let your orange run…

I haven’t taken a look yet cause my school has this class where we do the common app there, and i don’t want to do anything that they may be wrong. But, I will take a look at the questions @Cameron121

Great questions loveyounot and thank you so much for your insight Syracuse19. DD is applying this fall and we are leaning heavily toward ED as it is her #1 choice but it’s a little scary to commit to ED. I will definitely have her communicate with the fin aid office, good information! Anyone else have experience with applying ED? Anyone disappointed with the financial aid offered?

@NJFabFour I believe if you and your family are not able to pay for the school with the aid they give you, you can cancel your admission, even if you went ED.
