I'm considering applying Early Decision to Syracuse, but I don't know enough about the financial aid and scholarship opportunities they have to feel comfortable applying ED.

So, could anyone tell me a little bit about financial aid at Syracuse?

I had the same worry about applying ED to syracuse. I needed a good amount of financial aide. I didn’t get a complete free ride but I did get a pretty great package. Syracuse wants you to be able to go and will try to help you out most likely.
If anything contact the financial aide department or go to the office if/when you visit. Good luck with admissions! What school are you applying to?

Thank you so much! I’m applying to Newhouse. (:

Hi liveandlearn2011:

I’m an incoming Newhouse freshman. As for me, my financial aid wasn’t horrible nor was it great. (I was top 50% of my high school class with a 3.8 unweighted GPA) I didn’t receive any scholarship…unless the SUccess Grant counts (I received only grants). I spoke to other incoming Newhouse freshmen, and for the most part, if your academic performance and financial need are strong, you will get a considerable amount of financial aid and scholarship.

Good luck with the college admissions process!!

Thanks, huxicon! I appreciate it.

I’m a Newhouse freshman too! I did get a Dean’s Scholarship as well with SU Grants and federal loans. So totally agree with huxicon =)

If y’all don’t mind, I would appreciate it if you could look over my stats and extra-curricular activities and give me an idea of if I’ll be up for any scholarships.

Just a note: the GPA and rank are wrong. My counselor is telling me I have a 3.614 unweighted and a 3.59 weighted. I’m working with her now to straighten that out and once we get it corrected, my rank should go up a bit. My calculations put my GPA as 3.7 (unweighted) and 3.9 (weighted).

Also, I’m a first-generation college student from a single-parent home. My mom will have made about $25,000 by the end of this year.

Do I have a shot at any scholarships? And what kind of a financial aid package could I expect?
