I am going into my senior year of high school, and for a strong majority of colleges that have caught my interest require subject tests. I know that I want to pursue a humanities major in college–specifically, something involving the Great Books–and I took the Latin SAT Subject Test earlier this month. In the fall I am going to be taking the literature subject test and maybe the U.S. History exam and Latin one (if I am not satisfied with my score from the first time around). Do I have to have subject tests that are STEM even though I do not have a strong interest in those fields?
If you’re not pursuing anything STEM related, you should be fine. There is no reason to take more than 3 - in most cases 2. No benefit in surpassing the requirements here.
Depends on the college as well as what you are majoring in
I wouldn’t take them if you don’t have to
If you are applying to really competitive schools, like Yale or Duke, you might want to consider one STEM subject test. The Math 2 isn’t that hard, even if you’re not interested in studying math. I’d pick that one unless you have a science that you are particularly good at.
