I plan to take the US History subject test since I have taken APUSH. However, after doing some studying and prep with Barrons and the CrackSAT practice tests, I have not been getting solid scores… Does it look bad if I retake the test in the fall after taking it once next week?

No, and unless you are applying to a school that requires every single score, you can choose to omit the lower score if you retake.
Georgetown is only college left that requires you to submit all subject test scores.
Georgetown has announced, via admissions sessions, that next year they will accept AP test scores in lieu of subject test scores. Website is not yet updated for AP info, but there have been multiple reports of this statement/new policy on CC and other social media outlets. Of course if you take subject tests, Georgetown will still require the applicant submits the scores.
