Submit on the 31st - Too risky?

What are the chances that Common App will crash come tomorrow?

No worry. Wont be any problem. Seriously

Hmmm are you sure? lol

submit today and then you won’t have to worry.

well, let’s say I’m not exactly ready…

It has happened from time to time… I sure wouldn’t wait until evening, especially given that this is the first year with the recent upgrade. If I were you I would try to get it done today, or shoot for noon tomorrow.

Problem is, I really want to make this good, and rushing it in today is going to leave a lot wanting.

The big day is Jan 1, not Dec 31.

I’m making sure D has all her Jan 1 applications in by noon on Dec 31. Not because I think the system will crash, but because there’s no way she’s going to be in a mood to finish on Jan 1 after staying up all night, and she doesn’t even drink.

And I figure if she has a noon deadline, she’ll be done by 6 PM.

If the deadline is 1/1, don’t you have until midnight on 1/1 to submit? So you have well more than 48 hours.

Every Jan 1 deadline I’ve seen has been 11:59 PM, Jan 1. Which 11:59 PM that is, is another question, so be careful with that one.

Perhaps you should get off CC and work on the applications. You are just wasting time asking questions that cannot be answered. No one knows if the website will crash in the future.

The common app website HAS had periods of slowdowns/crashes at key points when a lot of people are trying to submit apps. So it is not unheard of, and a wise person would plan ahead and try to beat the rush by at least 12 hours…

intparent, so would 6:30 pm on December 31st be a large enough cushion space for applications due on the 1st? I know this is a rather difficult judgment call, but surely some can speak from prior experience? There’s a certain trade off I want to juggle between optimizing my apps and ensuring that they get through on time.

Yes, if you were my kid I would say it is okay. :)

So, typically no crash on the 31st?

I submitted my last EA apps at 10:00 pm on November 1 when they were due by midnight, and I was fine. So I would say just take your time and finish your apps well.

I submitted one of my EA apps at 11:45 PM, 15 minutes before it was due. I am not recommending that, nor am I planning on doing that again. I was just working on my app until then. I would say there’s probably not going to be a problem, but submit when you can just in case.

OK I may have underestimated how much I have left and might have to delay until the 1st…

I know I keep asking the same question, but does anyone have any experience with this being a fatal decision?

Why don’t you look at the CC archives – look specifically on Jan 1 or 2 of 2013. Count the number of panicked students who hit the submit button after midnight and read their blood-curdling cries of panic and freakout. Then see how many of their apps were ultimately rejected by the schools and not evaluated.

If you can find me ONE person, PM me and I’ll send you $10.

Think about it: in what universe would it be to the any college’s best interest to auto-reject applicants whose app comes in just past the deadline? Relax.

Just to be safe, I’d have a 2 hour cushion. With that being said, if the CA website crashes, colleges will give some leeway. They want more applicants anyway lol :)
