Submitting Chancellor's application a day late?

My son has procrastinated and is finishing up his essays right now. Today is three weeks from the date of the invite. Does anyone have any idea if they would accept his application a day late? He wants to have his teachers proofread his essays.

I say no, he should submit tonight, but I thought I would check and see if anyone has any experience with this.

Thanks.

I don’t know but, in the absence of a qualified yes, why take the chance?

That’s a tough one! In 2010 my DS’s was due during the Thanksgiving holiday so he asked ahead of time if he could have an extra couple of days and they said yes. You could take a chance and have him send an email tonight asking for an extra day, but it carries the risk of them saying no during the day tomorrow. If I was in your position, I think I would do the proofreading for him and submit tonight.

I got the sense last year that the 3 week deadline was not cut and dry – I don’t think Pitt carefully tracked each applicant’s due date, given the variations in U.S. postal deliveries as well as distance of applicants. Their goal is to have your son apply and consider him for the scholarship, not disallow him from applying. If they invited him to apply for the Chancellor’s, they saw something above and beyond in his original application.

Good luck to your son.

Thanks everyone. He will finish tonight, just perhaps a half an hour late which I think is much better than submitting tomorrow night. His procrastination has been driving me crazy. We will both be a little more relaxed after tonight, at least until we get closer to the January 1st applications.

@Theretheygo I can sympathize with your situation. Obviously you have a bright kid and it’s frustrating when they procrastinate. Mine did a similar thing with his Pharmacy school application and that was after being at Pitt for a year already. He’s getting better about it, but it’s taken awhile!

It’s hard to convince our kids that this is one of critical steps and so they need to put a priority in overwhlemed school works. My D always has many quiz, test, homeworks, and ECs at school.
BTW, she didn’t get any scholarship letter yet and so nothing on Chancellor scholarship application.
Wish your son get the scholarship.
