Submitting part of application

It says on the Harvard website that we should submit the Common App as soon as possible, but it doesn't have to include the essay or the short answer about an EC. Are we just supposed to submit the application with those parts blank and resubmit it later with them filled in? I can't find any way to submit only certain sections.

Thanks

I doubt it.

I don’t think the Common App will allow you to submit without an essay. If you leave out required sections, it will give a message indicating that when you click on “save.” Also, once you submit the Common App, you cannot go back in and change it. You can create an alternate version and change things on THAT version, but you can’t change anything that’s already been submitted to a college.

So what am I supposed to do? The website says:

You can’t submit it without the writing section

So… that means my options are submit by mail or do the whole thing online as quickly as I can? I’m concerned about my teachers/guidance dept submitting materials before I get an admissions file opened with my Common App.

Call Harvard Admissions. (Don’t worry, you will just speak with a clerical worker, not an admissions committee member.)

Harvard does want you to open a file by sending in the basic common app early. In the past, they allowed you to mail in the essays later, in hard copy, via post. They will know the techniques for splitting up the submision.

It is fine if your teachers and GC send in their recs and materials before you send in your stuff. Colleges will begin a file as soon as something arrives. (However, if you can send in your first CApp info, they will have a name, SSN, and identity to match it to.)

no, you have to submit it with a writing section. you can’t leave it blank.
